Internet Problem

i'm at a friends house.

computer hooked to cable modem.

aol works fine and can browse web.

ie/mozilla doesn't. ping results in 'request timed out'

any ideas? I've done everything, and we know the net works cuz i can post here.

try to uninstall firefox, then re install it again

aol installs it's own like virtual network card... i'd personally just uninstall aol.

aol/firefox has worked for a long time. it's just started yesterday.

odd aol works. i've used winsockxpfix - no help. even ran sfc.exe

I'm guessing its the proxy set-up for IE/Fox or a firewall issue?

no proxy, just direct.

it's some internal winsock stack prolem that some anti-spyware crap ruined.

i'm gonna do a windows repair. if that don't work. i'm out of options and gonna doa full reinstall (i'll use synctoy and file transfer wizard to save settings).

figured it out. spyware doctor fucks up the winsock stack when u uninstall it via windows. had to reinstall and then uninstall via it's own uninstaller. voila, worked.

bitch and a half to figure it out. had to disect windows down to the kernel device mode. exhausted.

I'm playing with the idea of installing Vista on a dual partition....


Anyway, AOL sounds like the problem. I'd get rid of it, even if it doesnt fix firefox it will make me feel better.
