I use 5-10iu's of humilin r before breakfast and after training. I eat 10 grams of carbs per iu of insulin although I have found that I can get away with less then that. This is a modest dose but it works for me and I have never had any problems. I know guys taking 20iu's 3-4 times a day. My suggestion to anyone starting insulin for the first time is to start out at a low dose, like 3iu's, and see how you react. Some people are very sensitive to insulin while other tolerate it well. You can up the dose as you find out how you handle it.
