Insulin Effects?

This is one crazy story.....and contains both good and bad news
Well.....about 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes, which is the bad news. I am 18 years old and have been running cross country and track since the beginning of high school. Now that I am a freshman in college, I run still but go to the gym to gain more muscle. Well, all the time throughout highschool I could not gain any extra weight or a lot of muscle for that matter, even though I worked out.

Now,..for the good news..my normal weight before I got diagnosed was around 155.....now I am 170lbs! I am also a lot stronger, my bench went up from being only able to bench around 170....to around 205 in just 3 weeks! Could this be due to the insulin I have to take to keep my blood sugar normal. After workouts I immediately drink Muscle Milk...and when I get home I take my insulin and eat my post-workout meal. Also, since I have diabetes I am on a high protein, concervative carb diet. I dont eat any fats or sugars.

Anyone know what caused these major gains, and is it all muscle?

It probably is a mix of your new diet and the insulin. Do you eat more protein now than before? I do know that low bodyweight/muscle mass is a symptom of low insulin levels, ive seen that in medical literature. As far as is it all muscle, that is hard to say. I would have kept track of my waistline measurement. If your waist is bigger than before that would mean you put on some fat. Easy way to guage fat gain, and the mirror doesnt lie either!
