Insulin a must in the fridge??

KillerLoop

Guys I was wondering if it is imperative to keep slin in the fridge??? Would a cool, dry, dark place do instead?
I am asking as I live with my brother and I don't really want him finding out.

No, you can keep it at room temp. I believe it must stay under 80 degrees. I worked at a pharmacy in college and the shipments of insulin did not come in ice packs while other meds that had to be refigerated did.

I don't think that the insulin that requires refridgeration is made any longer. Humilin just needs to be kept cool and out of the light. Some of my buddies warp there insulin in aluminium foil to reduce expousure to light.

I just keep mine in the bathroom and fill a pin when ever I need to take it. then I put the pin in my gym bag and go to the gym. The slin stays at room temp for most of the time. Keep it out of extreme heat and you'll be fine. Plus use Humalog if you can, I love the stuff

Read the insert that comes with the insulin, if I remember correctly humilin-R said "to keep in fridge, but it is not necessary." The pharmacy keeps it in the fridge, but I never did when I used it. I think its just a double safety thing...maybe there are some insulins that must be kept in there so just to be safe they keep em all in.
