Insomnia anyone???

Ever try that "sleepytime" tea. It has valerian root, an herb that helps you sleep, in it. If you use anything it should probably be this. I always use it to "come off of pot" :mix:

If it weren't for xanax my life at times would be sleepless. Really sux. I actually somewhat admire those who can fall asleep anywhere anytime.
 
I heard that melatonin and 5htp work well, otherwise tylenol pm is a solution, just dont get addicted.

I was a life long insomniac... very bad one at that. Here are some tricks that might help:

1. Sleep in a pitch dark room. Many insomniacs are ultra light sensitive so that even with just a distant street light shining through a crack in the window curtains they are unable to sleep. (The smallest amount of light stops their natural melatoin/seratonin.)

2. Take melatonin every night.

3. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) works great as a mild sleeping pill.

4. Drink a large glass of water just before bedtime. Dehydration can cause insomnia.
 
I got it right now - where the fuck is everybody?!!! Fuck it - I have a ton of soma that my friend gave, I'm gonna down a handful.
 
#1 applies to me. although when I actually head to bed, I am tired enough to just close my eyes and fall asleep. I hate those fuckers that can just fall asleep within minutes! usually takes me a good half hour or so. used to take me 2 hours to sleep. cure for sleep? wake up earlier so you will go to bed earlier, or at least will feel exhausted around your normal bedtime.
 
Insomnia SUCKS! I lay in my bed, tossing and turning, trying to get comfortable- which never works. then i start hearing that song in my head!! that techno/dance song that came out a few years ago .. "Insomnia" by Faithless... i swear i hear the dudes voice in my head going "I CAN'T GET NO SLEEP.." over and over again. it really sucks :(
 
I would hate it if I couldn't sleep on a regulaer basis.

You've averaged 4 hours per sleep per night? Damn....I could NOT function!

Try taking a hot bath, Yoga, put on some music...SEX will relax ya too!

I keep thinking that TONIGHT I'LL SLEEP, but there always seems to be some sort of crap that happens during the day that I end up worring over.

Try practicing focused breathing when you start worrying about the daily crap. You know, it's still going to be there tomorrow and you worrying about it doesn't change it.

Take deep breaths through your nose, slowley and just focus your mind on that for as long as you can. If you find yourself thinking about stuff just refocus on the breathing.

I know.

But whan your father tells you to your face that you are worthless and have no sense of honor - I sort of forget about thwe breathing hting.

Mine once pointed a 32 at my head because I simply wanted some acknowledgement for some of the things I had done for him. Get over it.

A doc frind of mine said to come by today and he would write a script for AMbien
 
Good, because you'll crash big time if you don't get some sleep.

My father used to talk to me that way and I finally told him if he couldn't find another way to speak to me that I didn't want to hear from him. We didn't talk for two years. I won't go into what I gave up to acquire complete independence from him but it was the best thing I ever did.
 
I Rarely have this problem. Maybe the night before a Big important day or a Business trip or something.
It pisses my wife off when she is all worried about some issue and can't sleep, and I'm out like a light. Bwahahahah...

When I started the Xenedrine I had a few nights until I either got used to it of stopped taking the last dose around 2pm.

Try reading but whatever you do DO NOT lay there in the bed and stare at the ceiling or toss and turn.
Get up, get out of bed and do something until you grow tired.

Personally I find Reading is the best thing for me..

When I was a kid I had insominia. I believe it was stress related. Learning to calm myself helped me overcome it.

I then could sleep 8-10 hrs a day easily. At my work I got a promotion which meant I had to do the graveyard shift. At first it wasn't too bad but after time I had a more difficult time getting any sleep. When I would sleep, it wsn't very restfull, and even then it was only for short periods. It was like permanent jet-lag. I tried many sleep-aid supplements but had the most success with Kava-Kava root. I would take a couple about 1 hour before bed and if I woke up during the day I would take another. Sleeping days is difficult because our bodies' metabolism naturally rises during the day due to our circadian rhythm. I finally got off graveyard shift, but not till I'd done it for 4 years. It's been a year since then and I still can't sleep as long as I used to. As males get older though, we apparently lose the ability to get into deep-sleep which is where our bodies repair and rejuvenate themselves.

Do a search on the web about sleep disorders and you'll find plenty of informative websites. I would also suggest seeing your family doctor. He may be able to help you or at least refer you to someone who can. There are studies going on all the time about human sleep disorders and you never know what new breakthroughs are around the corner.
 
Hey Corn, another "hidden" cause of insomnia is diet sodas and artificial sweetners. Most diet sodas use aspartme as their sweetner. Aspartme is made by binding a glycine molecule to an l-phenylanine molecule. l-phenylanine is the amino acid your body uses to make norepinephrine and noradrenalin. These are the neuro chemicals your body uses to wake you up and keep you awake. I found that I couldn't have a diet soda or cup of coffee within 8 hours of bed time or I couldn't fall asleep.
 
Melatonin helped me with my insomnia. however small doses work better than large doses, in my experience. Large doses just give me anxiety. 150-300 mcg of melatonin an hour before bedtime helps.
 
Doc gave me Ambien. I love it. I use a half a pill and go right off to sleep.
Doc told me to quit the melatonin. Yes, the body makes its own melatonin, but the problem is people use too much.
He said it's even been linked to blindness.

I have tried this...but the thing is...I never get tired. I will stay up doing things until 5:00 in the morning...even when I have to get up at 6. It really sucks...sometimes I would lay there for 2 hours and not be able to go to sleep...I'm glad I haven't experienced this for a long time.
