Yes it's true, inhailable (sp?) insulin is on it's way (I'm sure some of ya'll knew). It's about a year or two from being approved and put on the market. I talked to a friend of my mom's who was piloting it or whatever. Very cool. The device that administers it is about the size of a flashlight. You slide it open to open a chamber, insert the tiny little blister pack of powdered slin (1mg which equals 3IU), pump it once to fill the chamber with air and the slin, then open it up, inhale deeply and your done. It gets absorbed in the cappilaries of you lungs apparently. It's fast acting like Humalog and gives nice quick even spikes, it's not unpredictalbe at all she said. She likes it a lot and being Type 1 and diabetic counceler and educator, she knows what shes talking about. This would be great for people who using lots or slin and better and safer than taking 10-15 IU of long acting slin in the morn.
BTW she also said that while she uses the 1 IU to 10gm carb ratio in the morn, she uses a 2 IU to 15gm carb ratio throughout the rest of the day, but of course she doesn't make any insulin naturally either. Just thought that was interesting.
