info about flight delays, from LA to NY

My girlfriend is over in LA and she has a 9:45 flight to NY but her friends mother had a 3 o'clock flight from LA to NY and she said she has been sitting there 2 hours past 3 because of delays.

How can I get flight information and delays and find the next possible flight that she can get on?
