I think marriage can be great. But there's a real problem when the divorce rate is 60%. I'm very apprehensive. I think today's women are just so hard to please. This young generation probably will have the worst attitude towards marriage than any previous generations. Sad, but it might be a slow dying institution.

Absolutely right - divorce has pervaded society - people give up too easily - or they start off with ridiculous expectations and don't put their shoulders to the wheel when things don't pan out the way they thought. It's only when the institution is dead that people will finally wake up and realise what they lost. Selfishness... what a lovely over-embraced concept in Western society.

excellent views.. I agree about people giving up too early... and 50-60% is bad odds.. I think you'll find that we brits have the highest divorce rate in the west; certainly higher than the US and it's higher standard of living... In fact, arguments over money is one of the main causes of divorce.. I understand that aruments about home DIY also fugure strongly...

This is why I chose a girl who has faith in marriage. I don't want to figure in that 50-60% figure..

On the positive side, I hear the stats for successful 2nd marriages are much better... I guess you could consider a failed marriage to be akin to a bankruptcy i.e. you can lose property and possessions and income in a settlement..

Wrong. The divorce rate for second marriages is even higher. At least here in the good ole USA.
