I'm actually considering going back to being a full time bouncer.

If I can get enough shifts, I'm thinking about working as a bouncer as my main source of income for awhile. The guy I work for right now owns four places on the same street, and it looks like he's going to be needing me more now that all the students are back in town and the crowds are picking up again and some of our bouncers are going back to school.

There's also the possibility to bar back a little bit, which would make me more money and probably give me the chance to try a little bartending at some point in the future if I so desired.

Going back to full time would have its pros and cons, but since both the owner and the manager of his live music venue said that they could use me more, I'm giving it some serious consideration. If I can get the shifts that I want on a consistent enough basis, I'll probably do it for awhile. We shall see.

Do you associate with the bar folk at all, or do you stay to yourself? I know a bouncer that wont say shit, and I can beat my friend at arm wrestling(and im no good) and he just slammed the bouncer. Since then he's even more quiet than before. He's just a fucking dick, and I think one night i might just start shit to have an excuse to knock the fuck out of him.

I am a very social bouncer.

Why not? There's not a whole lot out there job wise right now. It's beats sitting behind a desk all day. I getting to the point where some manual labor sounds real good right now. Insurance and my 401K are the only things keeping me. I say go for it. All kinds of potential for excitement bouncing/bartending.

go for it if you enjoy it, I may be bouncing at the better of 2 strip bars here soon, and all because the manager was a bouncer where I work now about 7 yrs ago. and no job beats this, the social part rules

Steady cash and a change of pace with less hours spent at work would be A-OK with me right now.

you just quit your other job didnt you? i read something about falling asleep at the desk at a library?

are you still going to school? im not sure what bouncers make but fuck it, if theyre willing to pay good cash, go for it!

Bouncing stateside is a mugs game and Cas knows it. If he wants to make any real money he should take the route to bartending. That's as sweet as it gets in that game.

Yep yep.

malice- yeah, I quit. Tomorrow will be my last day.

Bro...........you are young. Do what you want to do.

I would think a guy with bartending experience could travel the world and work when he needs to.

Fuck it.........be a gypsy for a while. Why not?

Liquor is the right business these days. You have loads of time to stumble into what you want to do.

I hear ya. Even as a bouncer, my pay averages out to around $14/hr, tax free. It's just a matter of getting enough regular shifts.

I already have a couple of extra shifts lined up for this coming week at the sister bar to the one I usually work at. One of the door guys even called me last night at around 10:30 to see if I wanted to take his shift at the last minute, but I felt like a walking zombie and had to decline. I talked to the manager earlier today and he said he'd give me priority and fit me in whenever he could, and the manager at the live music venue told me a couple of days ago that she wanted me over at her place more because she needed more big guys that handled themselves well.

So things are looking fine so far. At least I know I'm not going to be starving on the street at the end of next month. :D

Come Saturday, I as well will be a full-time bouncer. Right now it looks like I'll get to work only four nights a week so I'll probably try and find another place for another night or two a week. I'm actually looking forward to it. It's way more fun than office work and it gives me more time to do other things that I really want to do with my year off. I wish it paid a bit better as well.

Cool. What's the pay going to be like?

Hey Cas..what city are you in??? And are there any big "clubs" around..?? The reason I ask is...the club I am a partner in is part of a promoters network....and it might be possible if a club in your area is on the network I could get you on......incidentally, our head door guy makes $18 and hour...and lord knows what he snakes on the side......just a thought......:)

Garbage, more or less. I'm still not entierly sure what I'm making but I'm guessing I'm starting at $10 an hour or so. Right now I make $12.50 and have more hours so I should be making about half what I do now, until I get more hours that is. The difference is that I can wake up, dick around for a while, go to the gym, come home and eat, eat, and eat some more, then toodle off to work, come home, smoke a bowl and eat some more. That's my idea of a good living personally. I need an easy-going lifestyle or else I can't at all handle it and get very stressed out. This week is awful for me since I'm still working two jobs and am taking over a lot more responsibilities at this office one. It's crap is what I'm trying to say. I've already told them "fuck it" to me coming in on Wednesday and I haven't decided about the rest of the week after that. I need the money though.

how do you get a job as a bouncer in the first place? just knowing the right people?

Good luck, my good man. I sound like a little kid saying this, but you are one of my favorites.

Let me know where this bar is so I can show up drunk and fucking fight you. With fists(you got that?).
