Illinois 77, UNC 71

Overrated Shawn May and Jawad Williams will not show up. IL's guards will contain Raymond Felton and slow UNC's transition game.

Roy Williams will be criticized for not playing Marvin Williams enough.

77-71.

Thank you! someone else realized how Sean May is overrated! I cant stand that fuck. Dee Brown is underrated if you can believe that. Deron Williams is solid. And i will always root for Big Ten :)

LMAO @ Sean May being overrated....the guy had 12 double-doubles in the last 14 games, and although he was a little tenative in the first half against MSU, he showed up like a man in the second, scoring 16 and taking over the low post...

I think that he is just getting his due. He has grown tremendously in his confidence and low post moves through this year. If Carolina is to win the title game tonight, the offense will have to run through him....

I disagree that May is overrated. What makes you say that? And considering Marvin Williams dropped 20 in the semi's, look for him to start. Jawad being a freshman will need to be the 6th man coming off the bench for a needed spark.

The only thing that scares me is, Felton. When he runs the fast break, he looks like a man undergoing a bout of tourettes and seizures in a theater yelling *FIRE* trying to force the ball to other players. He's too reckless and if he slows it down a notch and stops trying to shove a medicine ball through a needle, UNC will be ok and win.

I like UNC 88-79.

You don't understand Carolina and Roy Williams at all....Marvin will not start, although he will certainly get his minutes and more. Jawad is a senior starter, and the only way he would not start would be due to severe injury..

Marvin Williams is the freshman. He is also their best player and could be a #1 or #2 pick if he comes out. Jawad (a senior) had the 20 in the semis. You got your Williamses backwards.

May might get his 10 and 10 against the Illini. I don't think he gets 20+; he got a lot of points against MSU because...well, UNC is way better than MSU, and UNC took control of the tempo of the MSU game in the second half.

UNC won't control the tempo tonight; ask Louisville if you can run on Illinois.
Illinois will dictate the tempo and playing at IL's pace will frustrate the Heels. May will take bad shots.

Felton got away with it against MSU because they are MSU, freshman point guard etc. IL's guards are the best in the country and Felton will be reacting to them tonight, not forcing anything.

My bad, I thought Jawad was the freshman and Marvin was the guy from the Bud Light commercial screaming out his number during dinner to the hottie across the room.

I'll change my prediction. UNC 128 Illinois 20.

:D

No need to pucker up, he'll go for like 14 and 9 boards in a losing effort.

LOL, in all seriousness, I hope that both teams play well, and we have an exciting game. The matchups are very intriguing and it will be awesome to see how they pan out....

I hope it's another UNLV-Duke outcome with UNC being UNLV scoring 1000000!!!!

I had three of the final four but had Kentucky rather than MSU. Guess I should have joined your pool :)

UNC will win convincingly.

Sean May overrated???? Dude is gonna be a solid NBA player.

UNC bandwagon is getting pretty full, guys.

Some of ya'll need to jump off.

Finally someone else not blindly believing UNC has got it in the bag!

This is going to be a fucking awesome game! Doesn't get more intense than this....

UNC is good. Really good. Maybe even the second best team in the whole country.

IL's guards are better. Guards control tempo, especially in college. IL never gets out of control like MSU did. Think Detroit Pistons last year...5 guys who get it done, no superstars.

Sean May is a good player, but he's not Shaq and his presence doesn't change the game. Anyone who saw Roger Powell in the semi for IL better believe that May (or whoever UNC uses on Powell) is going to have to play some defense too. Anyone who saw IL beat AZ recognizes that IL does not lose control.

And just how good is UNC? Ask Villanova....that team UNC scraped by (Villanova!) with the help of a horrendous traveling call late in the game.

IL > Villanova. IL > UNC too. And tonight that will become abundantly clear to both the true UNC fans out there as well as the 1000000000 of you on the bandwagon.

Yeah, but they've been #1 since then too. So it's not really a bandwagon if fans have been on it all year. Where were these UNC fans when UNC stole a game from Villanova with the refs' assistance? Under a desk, probably.

I'm a Georgia Tech fan. I like Syracuse too. Last few years were good to me. This year, less so.

I'm just speaking as a hoops fan on this thread. :)

lol, fair enough. I could care less about Carolina, I generally have rooted against them in the past. I just think they will win.

Way to go man, good choice! You won't be disappointed.

Cool. After tonight you can take pride in having missed it by just one game.

But NC should have lost to Villanova. Where is that ref anyway?

No, I was in the dining room breathing a sigh of relief.

No bandwagoneer here. Been on the UNC train since the Phil Ford, Walter Davis and Mike O'Koren teams.

If you are going to use the argument that UNC should have lost to Villanova, then you have to realize Illinois should have lost to Zona. There were numerous no calls at the end of the Illinois game, equally as bad as the one call on Nova. Bottom line, it's going to be a great game, and I have no idea who will win. Great matchups all around.

You know the story about Jeff McInnis and Phil Ford?

I'm a Duke fan, anything but a UNC bandwagoner or fan. But I know they are the more dominant team. Illinois is gonna get a nice big dose of the ACC and its gonna hurt.

BileStew said:
Wasn't he banging Fords wife or something?

Yeah....and that is why he had to leave early. Had to.

Lestat said:

Like against Wake Forest? Oh, wait, IL beat them by 20, yeah it was early in the year, but, a 20 point ass beating is an ass beating.

ACC's got nothing on Illinois this year. UNC lost to GA Tech in the ACC Tourney and should have gone home against Villanova.

IL maybe should have lost to AZ, but AZ > Villanova by about 15 points.

Roy Williams is not the coach to get it done.

4 more hours assclowns.

your stats are ridiculous man, why look at a game by game analysis.

Go ahead and check the Big 10 - ACC challenge for the last couple of years and tell me what the result is... wasn't it like 7-2 this year in favor of the ACC? Wisconsin and Illinois were the only two teams to win.

Lestat said:

What was that second team you mentioned? Whofuckincares what the other Big Ten schools did?

;)

IL is bringing it home. Well, I hope they do, since I picked them in my pool.

I also heard that Charles Oakley beat his ass for hitting on his chick too.

Another rumor was Rasheed Wallace left early too becasue he was talking shit about McInnis banging Fords wife.

See, I would NOT fuck with oakley. He's a big bad mofo.

Wallace...dunno. But he was the best player in his draft year (Joe Smith went #1, Duncan didn't come out, Stackhouse was there too) so it was time for him to come out anyway.

Interesting on Wallace and Oakely though.

matt if you are so sure would you like to put a 100 dollar wager on your team..

lol @ Skywalker. Not only does UNC win, but Sean May absolutely dominates. Misses 1 FG the entire game. Tourney MVP. Too bad he is overrated.

UNC should not have won that game. Nova was screwed by the refs. Villanova will go deep into the tournament next year, mark my words.

I agree. Nova has a great team coming back. Randy Foye is going to be a name to look out for. He lit up UNC as well as many others this year.

I'm going with UNC 75 ILL 70....Just a guess.

He Played like a MAN....but MatttheHoople should have noted that the last time UNC played Illinois last year, May had 23 and 10 rebounds, and he is MUCh better now than even at the beginning of this year.

They had no answer for him.

Yep...definitely overrated.

He did miss a shot.

Forget this thread? Fuck no. I was at a construction site all day. I am trying to forget the game. But, fair is fair, so here it is:

Sean May was the best player on the court. I was wrong.

The second half of that game was the best college ball game I have watched in a while.

Was a good second half. Shot for shot.

It was a good game, but there were better in the tournament..

Wake Forest was awesome in their double OT loss.

The Illinois vs Arizona game was amazing.

Just curious how you can say that a game was better.

Closer? Maybe

More lead changes? Maybe

Explain this "better"?

sean may is a 6'7-6'8 280 (high percentage bodyfat) center in college. he is stupid if he thinks he's good enough to go pro.

When may decides to go pro he WILL be a first round pick.

Sean May is 260, and I would argue he is high bodyfat. He was a little pudgy when he came to UNC, but he has really worked on his conditioning and trimmed down. If you don't think he is good enough to go pro, you clearly have no fucking clue what you are talking about. The guy dominated the tournament. He is a polished inside player with a wide body and great hands. I'd be shocked if he wasn't a top 10 pick. Just who exactly is going to go ahead of him?

as for the best game of the tourney, I agree with Lestat that the Wake WVU and Arizona Illinois games were better. I'd argue that the Kentucky Michgan St. game was better as well. This was a great NC game, but a few of those elite 8 games were incredible.

Why don't you admit you were dead wrong when you claimed he was overrated? He made you look silly with a monster game.

I happen to agree he will not be a great pro because he's a tweener.

Phaded said:

May would go in the top half of the first round, but as of yesterday, he says he's coming back to UNC.

McCants will go early, as will Felton, but Marvin Williams is undecided, but most think he will stay. He needs to bulk up a little, get stronger, and add some polish.

UNC will be strong, but the worry is who will play point.

Marvin Williams would be the highest pick of all the UNC players. Potential #1 overall, though Bogut out of Utah is nasty too.

May is the wrong size to be an NBA star. Reminds me of Corliss Williamson; a decent NBA player but that's it. He'd go late first round if the conditioning is no longer a problem.

Charles Barkley was a freak of nature. The guy was 300 pounds at Auburn and he could still fly. You can't compare anyone to him.

Exactly correct. I was thinking of Corliss as well.

I think May is a much better player than Corliss was. Much more of a go-to guy. More moves on the interior. Longer reach, better hands, a better jump shot. A tougher match-up. I agree I don't think he is going be an all star center, he's not tall enough. I do think he'll be a high draft pick though. Okafor is about his same size but not quite as thick and was overall #1. Granted May doesn't play D like Okafor does, but arguably is better offensively.

Top Bottom
