Igf1 and cancer

Hey I guys and gals. I was going to post this to see what you all think. Have you heard of Dr. fuhrman the nutrition specialist? You might have seen him on TV like I did. Anyways, he was saying spiking your insulin gives you cancer. And eating meet raises your igf1 levels which gives you cancer. Thoughts??

Dude, everything gives you cancer. Who gives a shit. Do what makes you happy then when you die of meat-induced cancer, you'll die happy and fulfilled. Let dr furryballs be a vegetarian and be small his whole life

Not to mention, big meals and most foods spike your insulin so I guess milk eggs and meat will be the death of us all

Hahaha exactly what I was thinking. I was wondering if anybody here was concerned

We're all going to die, why be concerned? ;) I've heard before that every serving of red meat takes time off of your life. It did concern me for awhile but I realized how unhappy I was cutting it out of my diet. Now I eat that shit 'er DAY!

There has to be some abnornal growth of cells before Igf can initiate tumor growth. There has to be a tumor first....
If your that concerned with it , why not get a full body cat scan just to check

My two part answer to claims like this is: a) No, I don't think meat increases significantly your chances of getting cancer, no matter what TV doctor is saying it this time. b) Yes, unfortunately the function of hormones like HGH and IGF-1 in our bodies is running through every organ of it and saying "hi guys, it's party time! anyone wants to grow?". In the best of cases it's your muscles the ones answering to that question but if you happen to have any tumor or even a mini-tumor that your immune system would rid off naturally, they'll want to grow as well and viciously if you let them.
So yes, IGF-1 has a role in cancer development. The only thing that puts me at relative ease is knowing us with a bodybuilding lifestyle don't usually end up dying of cancer, do we? I'd like to see a survey about that though.

If spiking your insulin increases chances of cancer, every time you eat anything you are upping your chances of getting cancer. I'm pretty sure sugar/fruit/bread/rice/potatoes will spike your insulin far more than a steak will.

Exactly. Everyone who is a diabetic would have malignacies all over their body. There has to be some malfunction in normal cell growth to create a tumor. IGF alone I dont belive will do that

And what was this good Dr. selling?
I am sure he has an agenda and surely it was to increase his personal finances.

I didn't watch the entire thing but it looked like he was selling DVDs about him teaching about being vegan. The thing that gets me is the guy is really skinny (obviously) and after the age of 50 we start to lose muscle. So.... You live longer but you can't do anything but sit in a chair because you don't have muscle to move? Worth it? Hell no
