Ice Luge

anyone make a luge for a party. I'm having a party this weekend and wanted to get one, since I've never done it before.

Whats a good way to make one?

look in the yellow pages for a company that sells ice.

Get a giant block of ice and a friend with a pick up truck.

I like to get it at least 4 feet by 3 feet.. and 18 inches thick.

Get two saw horses and a piece of plywood to put it on. Use a slope or some bricks under one saw horse to create a angle.

To make the tracks.. I like to use a nail or knife to carve a little scratch or line the way I want it to look... if you want to just go straight its easy... I like mine straight and fast.. less liquor feezes to the track that way.

Once you make the line.... use warm water to really cut the groove.. just run it though the crack to create the groove. Use a turkey baster .. you don't want to start at the top because the water will not always make it to the bottom.. and it wont be hot by then.. so it wont be as affective.

I always do 2.. maybe 3 tracks.. so more then one person can do a shot at a time.

good advice man. will the ice company sell a thing of ice that is a triangle so I don't have to cut it to make it a big slope?

I didn't put much thought into where I would store it. I gotta see if I have the horses and a peice of wood to make a table for it.

How long would the block last before it melts and is useless?

and whats a basic price?

from what I remember, they carved two tracks in the block right when we picked it up with a chainsaw. one wa straight and the other track was windy. I think it costs around 60 bucks, could be wrong, or could be dependent on the size. all I know is it was heavy and slippery. we used blankets to carry it into the house.
make sure you have a sturdy table and set up for it too.

pice is variable.. at least $20... no more then $60.. depends on the size.. and yeah ideally if you can call some places in the yellow pages and find a place that does ice sculptures and what not they could hook you up with a pre-made one.. just don't spend TOO much.

and you can ask if they will hook you up with a slanted bottom but I haven't heard of that.. you could always melt down one end yourself... just be careful not to melt too much!

And it will last at least 6-8 hours.. by the end of the night it will be getting pretty small and it will be soaking wet wherever you put it.. I'd put it over the grass or a driveway where the water can run off.
