LONDON - British spy chiefs warned after the 1973 Arab-Israeli war that they believed the United States might invade Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi to seize their oil fields, according to records released Thursday................................

We wouldn't be in this mess now, being dependent on Saudi Arabia if we had done this in 1973. Plus its not like Arab countries like us today considering we didnt do that.

it would be interesting to see if we could handle islamic terrorsm and the cold war heating up....there's no way the ruskies would have taken that, they would have moved in troops as well, things would probably escalate from there

Funny, weren't the Commies fighting Muslims? Aren't they still?

Everyone wants the oil and the easy access to ports.

We would go to war for oil at <$2 a gallon (here in NJ) but we pay $2-$3 for bottled water for a LITER!!! From Maine. lol

most of the governments out there (i.e. middle east and africa) were supported by the USSR, and since the US didnt support them (any of them) and did support Israel (which they always hated) the governments of those countries supported the USSR (most of them were socialist previously)

so (as i understand it) the US sought to undermine the USSR's support by promoting and supporting some islamic fundamentalists in the area;s they had the best chances of taking over, to disrupt that leadership or at least get access to the country and install sympathetic leaders....im sure there are links to the wahabi sects of islam. A good example is Afghanistan

Saudi Arabia has been pulling US strings since then and will forever be supported. In fact, until 9/11 they had carte blanche to do whatever the fuck they wanted re: terrorism.

no shit, when was the last time you heard of "them" towing a half billion dollar drilling rig a mile out to sea to drill for water?...bottled water is such a scam..on another note, invading the ME so soon after Nam wouldn't have been such an easy undertaking..20 years later after the conclusion of the cold war is a more viable period...too bad we didn't go straight to baghdad in '91

Yeah, Osama was "trained" and funded by the CIA to overthrow the Russian leadership of Afghanistan. Then, the dog decides to bite the master and the rest is history.
