I spent over $1000 on headphones last year alone so I like to think that qualifies me as an expert. I first started with Shure E3's(wouldn't stay in the ears, ok sound) then I went to UE superFi 3's(which I enjoyed until I cut the cord). Then I went all out and bought Shure E5's hoping they would be what I was looking for but they crapped out on my in about 3 months(hard use thought to be fare/rain ect..). So then I went back to the UE SuperFi 5 pro which I have now.
I like them, great sound but mainly because of the wire over-the-ear hook that keeps them somewhat stable when I run. UE is coming out with a triple pro 10 which I will probably go with next.
