I need your help for a good cause

Okay, peeps. It's time for DT to call in some markers. I am seriously considering participating in the AIDS/LifeCycle Bike Ride on June 3-9, 2007. It's an AIDS charity event (duh!) that entails cycling 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles over 6 days.

In order to do the event I not only have to bike that far...I have to commit to raising $3,000 before I can even start the ride. I work for a small company and I don't know that many people in Cali so I'm hitting up all my online homies and home-ettes. $3,000 is 120 people @ $25 each which is a lot of folks. I'm hoping a couple of you will be between cycles and won't mind pony'ing up $75-100. I need to get an idea how many people I can count on to throw in $10-100 for a great guy busting his fat ass for an even greater cause.

I figure 30-50% of the people who say they'll help won't when the time comes so I'm hoping the numbers will add up between all the forums I visit. I'd like to decide and start collecting money by January 1, 2007.

Who's in? Don't make me go all Rev. Al Sharpton up in here. :)

I dont have shit, 70 dollars to my name after purchasing supplements today.

But I do have a $20 in my pocket

tell me where to send it bor, I'll back you.

I'll throw in $54.50 (10 cents a mile) some time next month. If you don't make the whole trip though I want to be reimbursed for the remainder of your mileage. You know, extra incentive. :)

Please PM me the info. I'm in for $25 at least. Maybe more but I'll commit to $25 for now.

6 whole responses....I'm fucked.

I'll hook you up with 11cents a mile... LOL...

Hansel's a cheap ass!

Let me know how when to get you my Molah!

In one day you raised at least $100, that isn't bad.

You haven't told us where to donate the money yet bor. Don't count the chickens until the guy who drives the truck finds your house.

The ride is 6 months away. I won't even start collecting for 2 months. I just wanted to gauge the interest.

Thanks, everyone. Assuming I decide for sure to do it I will begin officially collecting donations on Jan 1.

I would start up some other way though, as people may forget by then. Why not set up a paypal account today, collect donations and then transfer it all on Jan 1st?

1. The ride organizers already have a payment system that works fine
2. I use my paypal for personal stuff and I don't want commingle funds.
3. Obviously I will bump/make new threads as time goes on to remind people.
4. I've got enough on my plate with training and fundraising to worry about who paid what.
5. If you pay thru Paypal you won't get the letter of acknowledgement for the tax deduction.

You should make a list of all the people and what they are going to donate, and update it every week or so here.

Yep, cause we'll forget in a month. At least I would. Hell, I don't even remember last week. Too much aluminum in the air.

You're about 6 hours too late with that suggestion :)

I'm in, but on one condition. DT has to wear a mask of satan and I get 20mg of PCP.

Maybe you should look for your local market. Perhaps people that actually have a job. If you call or email someone that will hand you money. Not an IOU then EF is not a choice. But they do have some really good advise!!!

I beg your pardon, have I or (we) just been insulted? a) that we don't have jobs b) that our word to support a fellow ef'er is not to be trusted? I'm a bit surprised since your lady wife was bragging on your bank that you didn't kick in at least 10%, it is for a good cause..

Peace

Sorry you took my husband's words as being harsh. This is the net and it is easy to misunderstand. He was trying to be helpfull by guiding DT to find his market.

DT is a friend of mine - close and personal as in REAL TIME, not just a "net friend".

I hope that he will come to me in JAN personally. If I am in a position to help him out, I will... up close and personally and not on EF. :)

DT - what an EXCELLENT way to motivate yourself to get into awesome shape!!! Have you thought of asking our mutual friend if she might know of someway to procure the funds necessary for this worthy cause?

I explained in the initial post why I wasn't approaching the local market; other than my company. Besides, it appears my EF people are coming thru just the same.

I hope that this thread will remain stickied so you can keep us updated. :)

BTW, I found out I only have to raise $2,500...that's no excuse for you tightwads to slack off though! :)

You can unsticky this. I'll make a new thread in a month that will have the donation link in it.

Wow DT! I'm just now seeing this. You know I'll help. I'm not here often so pm me when it's time. I'll make sure to keep checking. Good Luck!

I registered for the event today. Once I get the info I'll post a donation link.
