I know people that do that as a test of the other person. To see if they will be supportive or not.

I will make fun of myself more than others. If they laugh, that's good. It would bother me if they kept going on and on about it, but otherwise it's all good.

the thing is most of the time i know they are going to say something mean back... i guess it's a defense mechanism and i figure i've beaten them to the punch... but at the same time it makes me laugh becuse it tells me a lot about the person.
