I have respect for the men who fought in WWII

I'm normally one of the biggest military bashers around. I've just finished watching the "Band of Brothers" series and if this was an accurate portrayal of these men then I have a considerable amount of respect for them. I kept trying to imagine myself in their position and wondering how I would have acted. I don't know if I could have held it together under such conditions, especially D-day and the battles at Bastogne. Then again, times were different back then. I doubt there was a lot of war bashing because the reasons for fighting were so clear, unlike today where we go to war because we think somebody "may potentially" be developing some weapons and "may attack us at some time in the future". I guess people then seemed to look at the Germans as a true enemy and not just pawns of a dictator.

One of my dads friends was at Omaha beach. He told some horrid tales that gives you nightmares. He cried in the opening scenes of Saving Pvt. Ryan. Much respect to all vets.

As much as i too respect the men who fought on Dday, it must be remembered that the Russians both made more sacrifices, and did more harm to the nazis than the usa.

HOO YAA !!!

Especially those that did invasions of Normandy or the Pacific Islands.

I have heard first hand from both, stories that would make an EF spider attack look tame.

I have huge respect for all soldiers who have been in battle.
Especially those from Vietnam & earlier.

They have witnessed shit that we cant imagine and have put thier lives on the line at the request of their country.

Anyone who dosent at LEAST buy a poppy on Rememberence Day is a complete dick.

My dad was a WWII medic. I don't know the details but he took care of some wounded Germans....that was his job. Said they were OK with him.

My uncle fought the Japanese in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Got to float with the sharks for a few days while watching his comrades being systematically eliminated by sharks. Had no love for the Japanese.

Moral of story...if any? We actually got along better with Germans than with Japanese.

Yea....you have to respect the war vets.

Agreed.Although I am not a big fan of our gov and it's policies, the armed forces and soldiers carrying out their duties are very brave men and have nothing but respect from me.Always will.

Every American soldier deserves your respect and if it takes a DVD to get than that's fine. But it is sad that the world has come to that.

Robert Jan might want to read up on his history.
