Just finished studying up on michael addition and robinson annulation, two reactions that form the majority of steps in a steroid synthesis. In fact we covered some steps in the synthesis of a generic steroid.

time to drop out of school and use my new knowledge to start an UG lab.

does anybody else know any true organic chemistry? i thought this was for chemistry but it seems to be more about powder preparation and mixing

I minored in Chem. (majored in Microbiology), and just reading your post about the addition and annulation brought back frightening memories of one of my prof's. LOL.....ahhh, what good times those were.

heh.. yeah i'm in 2nd semester organic right now. totally a biatch

however the annulation is just a complicated aldol condensation, which is not that bad.

i just thought it was cool that i could design steroid syntheses. not that i would or anything it'd be a pain in the ass
 
That's a great field CasualBB. There are so many opportunities, especially post-grad, virtually you'll have no limits. What do you plan to do after school?

What I find ironic is the number of people who despise chemistry and biology in high school, they say they hate it and it is not practical and they don't need it........then a few years down the road become interested in exercise and anabolics and they WISH they were back in school because it comes so easy now that they can apply it to something of interest.
 
yeah i'm pre-med right now, this is like the biggest hoop to jump through on the way to med school

i have two tracks right now,

1) psychology grad school
or
2) med school

I'll probably end up taking biochem next spring, we'll see how that goes

Yeah, our prof. talked about the free base process. Its been 17 years since I took the class, all I remember is memorizing some much crap.
