I had a high school buddy who went in to the guard and liked it just fine.

I have a local buddy who went in as well and he stated that, "All we did was float around and search for drugs and rescue the occasional moronic boater."

I'm sure you have heard all kinds of advice but I'll give you a little more. You need to start out right. Keep the mind set I told you about and don't let the ones who do everything half assed influence you. Be motivated, stay spit shined, know your regs thourghly. Your goal is to leave basic with a higher pay scale and some rank. I was 82nd airborne but I have a friend who was coast guard. He got in some pretty hairy situations. Boarding drug boats with a loaded weapon ect. It's like being a cop.
