So, I am at the store today and my card gets declined.
I think, "WTF??? Hmmm... that's really weird. I'm gonna call the bank and check my account balance."

I call the automated bank system and apparently some theif has made three withdrawls from my account for a grand total of $1,600!!!! I am so mad!!!

So, I have to call the fraud department and make all these reports. My card gets cancelled and in the meantime I will have like 5 checks bouncing and all this shit!!! And all the while I am trying not to cry while I am on the phone with the fraud department.

Have to sign like three afidatives and get them notarized. Won't have my account back to normal for like a week.

What a way to ruin my day!!!!! I am so so so mad!!!!

how is it possible for a theif to take money from your account if you have the card?

and are you talking bank account balance or credit card account balance?

I'm confused; was this a credit card or a debit card? If it's a debit card, will you be able to get that money back?

I think they got my card info from a time that I purchased something online. It is a debit card. So, my checking account is now -$1,600. They say I will probably get the money back, but that it is going to take like a week. And in the meantime I will just have checks bouncing all over the place!!!

That's too bad. There should be more security for this type of shit.

we had a thread about this tuc started.

that's the reason why credit cards are better than debit cards. it's the CC companies money as opposed to your actual funds being spent so there is less risk for you if it gets stolen/hacked

That's terribel.

I'm certain you will get reimbursed. In the interim all you can do is contact those who the checks were written to and inform them of what occured. With any luck you may be able to get one or two to hold the checks for a few days. Make certain to ask your bank if there is anything that can be done on their end to prevent the bounces, or at minimum to avoid the associated fees.

Remember, this too shall pass

Good luck young lady

Remember, the fault is the banks so long as you notified them promptly of the unauthorized activity

My sister went through this same thing once. $1750 for her. To make things worse... it turned out to be one of our 18 year old cousins with a drug problem. He bought $1750 worth of shit from stores and then pawned and sold it for drug money.

Hang in there... JerseyArt's advice is really good. Try to get them to hold the checks and explain to them what happened, and that it is not your fault the checks are bad, but the money will be in your account once they fix it.

Oh man, that sucks!! Hope it all works out for your benefit w/o too much hassle....

You'll be good Mandy... I had this problem like 2 monthes ago... but my balance was a whopping $0.02 LMAO, I dont know what happend but I made and ass of myself proclaiming that I wasn't gonna pay a $20 surcharge for 2 cents I didn't even spend... but in the end.. everything was all good, so just hang tight and all shall be good.

happened to us once, but it was a mistake on some company's part. they somehow screwed up someone else's routing number and debited $300 from our checking account. the bank was understanding and promised that none of our checks would bounce while we were waiting for the money to get returned, which it was within 5 days. believe me, i was pretty pissed talking to the company too. "5 DAYS?! you took my money with a few keystrokes, and it's going to take 5 days to give it back?!"

no compensation from their part. bastards.
