why is it that you get your post edited or deleted, or even banned if you talk about retards, midgets, homosexuals, and even al sharpton. but people can rake christianity over the coals and post derogatory pictures of jesus and its all in fun then.

the same people that are offended by someone elses believes and comments are the one's posting these pictures. i guess you wanna fight fire with fire, but that makes you just as ignorant as them.

the difference is, if i post a comment or pic demeaning homosexuality or al sharpton it gets locked, edited, or deleted. but the comments or pics demeaning christainity remain.

Well, for example, I've been accused of not approving of certain members simply because he/she is conservative. That's just simply not the case, I actually like Warik (even though his views I differ with greatly) because when Warik discusses issues USUALLY he doesn't resort to racial names or other derogatory names, such as some members who have used the "n" word before.

For example, I don't expect everyone to approve of the gay lifestyle. And that's fine, express that, all you like, but when you or anyone else resorts to calling someone "muscleaids" then you've crossed the line. So in short, why can't people just discuss their views without insults or name-calling. Dissention is good, degrading someone because of factors outside of their control is not.

Why shouldn't this include religious beliefs? I mean several people have posted pictures that are and have been noted as offensive to specified religious beliefs-but since you stated that you agree everything is arbitrary which initself is a broad statement downgrading specific belief systems thus opening the door for such actions.

whenever human beings make judgments there is bound to be some variation in the decisions being made. We see that in something important like the judicial process, and we see that in something of much less importance--the internet. Unfortunately, as long as humans make judgments there is bound to be some inconsistency. We can only hope that inconsistency is wholeheartedly kept to a minimum, which is what I certainly attempt to do.

Big4life, You are right on the money. We are all guilty, but the truth is, majority rules when it comes to acceptable and unacceptable hypocracy. Self-righteousness is the foundation of closed-mindedness. Religion has been debated for ever and it is almost "in" to have different opinions, and there is a wide range of acceptable ideas, but racism and sexuality is seen, excuse the expression, as either black or white, right or wrong, so it makes people uncomfortable. They don't want to be proven wrong.

What is so sacred or special about the "n" word?? Obviously the term "nigger" is degrading but no more than spic, whitey, cracker, honkey, red-neck, chink, etc. but I never see threads locked or deleted for using terms such as those. It seems to be ok to make fun of or degrade any group...but god forbid you use the dreaded "n" word. I agree it would be nice if all discussions could be relatively intelligent and free of personal insults, but this is an internet chat board and that is not going to happen. If this board wants to censor all degrading speech it should do so on an EQUAL basis. I think it is interesting how it is ok for EYEPEEE to openly degrade and make fun of Asians but he would immediately be censored if he created a similar persona, but degraded a black person instead. Interesting double standard

Finally, I am not for censorship of any kind. I just find it curious how some who claim to be against degradation are so selective in what they consider to be derogatory or degrading.

ofcourse ryan, i am a firm believer in civil discussions with content. its natural for some people to esculate the discussion into emotional rhetoric. i am also for zero censorship, even if that means someone gets thier feelings trampled on. i would not intentially offend someone, and if i was told i did i would apologize.

my whole point of this thread was, why cant i make fun of al sharptons dialect.

on the issue of people who constantly offend other people or groups with the sole intent to piss them off or get rises out of them. an example of this would be Balls of Steel.

these people seek attention. that is thier sole purpose. they still exhibit a newborns first taught lesson(or it may be an innate quality). and that is, that if you cry, you shall recieve attention. this never leaves us, because it is instilled in us from birth. but it seems to subside as we grow up. but for some it remains strong either due to the continued nuturing of the parent or to the very fact that it is innate.

but these types are very easily handled. i treat them just like my children. when my daughter seeks attention by whinning, i simply use my ignore function on her. she is rewarded with attention for good behavior, a positive attitude and proper conversing.

so my whole point is, if you are offended by someone on here like a "balls of steel", just ignore them at all cost. so, when nobody is paying any attention to them for the way they are acting, they will change thier behavior, because they are diffident attention seekers. they just haven't been taught that there are other ways to recieve attention.
