Hydrocortisone Catabolic?

Does anyone know if topical hydrocortisone cream such as that sold over the counter for dry skin and rashes would be at all catabolic to your muscle tissues in the quantities that would be used to control a small patch of dry skin?

there is SOME systemic absorption, but at OTC concentration, and for a small spot, I wouldn't worry about it.

It can be locally catabolic with long-term use. I have seen patients with a big "dent" in their arm where the muscle has wasted away due to prolonged use at high doses. I agree with geoboy that at OTC doses, it is probably not a problem.

Systemic absorption should not be an issue either - too low of a dose to worry about.

nice boobs by the way :p . she local talent?

I think the dent is skin atrophy/thinning, not muscle breakdown. the cortisone breaks down collegen/elastin at high dose/long use.
it wouldn't be able to reach the muscle topically, only way to get actual muscle atrophy from cortisone would be systemic absorption or IM.

geoboy: Yeah, what you say makes sense and I was surprised to see it, but this was a serious dent and did include muscle wasting in an elderly patient with very little subQ fat and very thin skin. This might be a rare case and may not really apply to a healthy, younger person.
