I've been low carbing for about a year and 2 weeks ago started ckd. Last week was fine, I wasn't hungry at all, if anything I was sick of food and I had the metallic taste in my mouth and a few other symptoms of ketosis. Last week I was getting about 2500 cals, 70% from fat 30% from protein and minimal carbs. If any at all I'd have about 6 grams a day. I'm 197lb about 170LBM. Did the carb up on Sunday.

After the carb up I decided to redo my diet and use healthier fats. Now I'm getting my fats primarily from oils. Lowered my cals to 2167 same 70/30. All of a sudden I'm really hungry. I'm not sure if I should raise my fat cals. Today I did a gruesome leg workout, maybe thats why I have this ravenous hunger. If my diet specs are needed I'll post em.

I've also been on a CKD for almost 3 months now. When I get the wicked hunger pangs I'll either eat a spoonful of ANPB or a bunch of mixed nuts and then maybe have a coke zero and try to forget about food. If at night i just go away from the kitchen and lay down in bed.

I've been very strict on my CKD so far so I try not to eat anything outside my meal plan. Yesterday night after starting this thread I just stuck it out and went to bed. Thing is I don't know if that's the best thing to do, or if the best thing is to go and eat something light that won't interfere with my ketosis.

Hunger=fat loss/working deficit?

Edit: forgot to ask, the metallic taste in my mouth is not as prominent as it was in my first week. Is this normal? That's usually how I judge if I'm in keto or not. I hear the stix are unreliable so I don't use em. I went into keto the first day, and after a mid week diabetes test which required me to drink a glucose heavy drink I just decided to carb up that day and I went into keto the following day after getting back on the diet and working out. Basically the question is metallic taste is gone, am I still in keto?

@Bloke, I figured I was craving carbs. I just stuck it out. I told myself that the hunger meant I had a good deficit going. Just wondering if I was right or not. I think CKD is a good diet for me but as instructed it ain't a long term diet.

eat some veggies in your meals.

personally when i do CKD even when i eat bad fats the weight melts off. Aren't u like 18%? should be the same for you until 13 percent or so I would guess, i can get down to 8 percent eating sausage and bacon but thats just me.

cant help much with hunger, i still detest any food that isn't cooked in a restaurant from my last bulker so I'm really never hungry enough that a diet coke cant fix it

I just figured better fats would get me to my goal faster. I think I'll go back on sausage the week after next. The only bad fat in my meal plan now is thick cut bacon.

How long did it take you to get down to 8%? and from what % did you get to 8%?

you will meet your goal faster, but if you quit you never will..... gotta be a balance. if you can eat all good fats more power to u

i went from like 20 percent ot 8 percent but i dunnoman....... it took a long time. 4-7 months? really not sure it was awhile since i was that lean

ketostix do tend to be inconsistent if anything. Ketosis symptoms are probably different for a lot of people. For myself, I know I've hit when I feel very groggy. I don't get the metallic taste.

I'm definitely gonna stick to it. I've never been super lean. I wanna hit my goal then run a clean bulk... as clean as a bulk can be anyways. 20 to 8 percent is impressive, hopefully I'll make it there without hitting any walls.

Gotta ask, I read somewhere that ppl with more than 15% body fat should only carb up once every two weeks. As of now I'm doing it once a week which was recommended for people with less than 12%. I think this works for me though because I lift really intensely and I wan't no muscle loss. Just wanna know from someone with experience, how often did you refeed when you were @ 20%?

I get the grogginess too. I've been judging whether I'm in or not by the taste in my mouth. But I've read that your body creates a balance and uses ketones more efficiently so there is no excess hence no taste in my mouth. As long as I'm burning fat then I'm cool.

Can't wait for my refeed. :chomp:

everyone has a way they can tell. for me i can literally smell the ketones in my urine and i also just feel "off" i dunno not off in a bad way just different.

carb loads depend on the person, not the bf%. you would probably burn fat faster with a strict carb cycle. ive done both numerous times and now i carb cycle year round. its pretty easy.

Cool, I'll leave at once a week which works well for me.

how does that work, in the offseason i mean?
what benefits have u noticed?

i would like do changes and such in my offseason diets, to never get stuck, but dont know how il do it.

in the off season i just increase my carbs. so instead of a low day with 50 or 100 grams, it will be 200. medium days would be 250 to 300 instead of 150. high days would be 400 to 500 instead of 250.
