How would you take this?

I am supposed to go on vacation next week and have been putting in mega-hours the past few days to make sure that everything is covered in my absense.

This morning before I left work I received this e-mail--

We feel that it would be in your best interest and that of the company, if you STRONGLY reconsider your upcoming vacation plans. We not only feel that it is critical that you are available during this period of high demand, but it is also your responsibility. I will be meeting with you on Monday at 6 pm to discuss your decision.

Hmmmm...Does this mean if I go I will be fired?

It sounds like they are trying to bully you. I don't see them firing you over a vacation that has been scheduled ahead of time. On the other hand, it might affect any raise that you might receive.

Who was supposed to cover for you in your absence?
Your boss?

Whatever reason they come up with, it still sucks.

The assistant production manager was suppose to take over my responsiblities. I have been working with him to prepare him for my absence, but it would also be the first time he has actually had any job of importance since being hired..

I guess this means I won't be able to visit you.....lol :bawling:

Toga, this is pure BS. You made vacation PLANS. You didn't pop up with the idea of going on vacation at the last minute. You planned it. You chose a time. You trained someone to cover for you. You gave your company notice... and you are intitled to your vacation time.

Your boss pops up at the last minute telling you to cancel your vacation. If he didn't like you taking a certain time off - the time to mention it was when you gave him notice - NOT A WEEK BEFORE YOU LEAVE.

Big is right. Your boss sounds like a bully.

If he fires you for taking your scheduled vacation - file a grievance with his superiors.

toga, tell the guy you spent money and you will NOT go if they pay you back every cent you spent on your tickets, etc... they should have told you before hand that it wasnt a good time to take the vacation... if they do not reimburse you, well... its their fault and thats wrongful termination if they fire you.

SCREW THEM!!!!

Toga, go on vacation and do not let them mess with you!! If they continue to give you a hard time.. I will help you destroy all of them.

Hummmm...number one what kind of cowardly jackass would send that in an E-MAIL and not have a face-to-face discussion with you about it? Number two what kind of cowardly jackass hides behind "We?"

I would push back *REALLY* hard on Monday at 6pm when "they" talk to you. I would demand to know why my vacation request was approved in the first place if this is REALY a "period of high demand."

Bottom line is, if you followed procedure and got the appropriate approvals for the time off, AND have been delegating your responsibilities so that your work will be taken care of in your absence - they would have to come up with a *really* compelling reason for me not to go.

Good luck.....

all good points...

you have also, of course, been keeping a written log
of all management fuck ups/indiscretions with a list
of witnesses present???

its good to be a gangsta...:D

Also keep that email It will be your saving grace if anything does go down. Let the company explain it. In fact try and get as much of this BS in writing as possible. They are just nailing shut their own coffin.

That would really make me angry.

However, suck it up and file it away for later.

Next time they question your commitment(If they ever do),
take out your trump card.

It sounds like strongarm tatics, if you gave them notifcation in advance, they, as in manament, should be well prepared to take over your duties. That, is in fact, a load of bullshit.

i think you should have frankie knuckles have a sit down with your boss and have him make him an offer he can't refuse. either that or we can just make love until you forget about it. :D
