How to start up a porn site?

AAP

Plat Hero
Platinum
Is there a HOW TO book or any good links to read?

Basically, I would think that all you had to do was get a webhosting gig offshore, install some kind of thingy that allowed you to accept credit card payments, design the site and dump all the content (porn) into it.

But then, if it were so easy, everyone would do it right?

Anyone have any inside info or advice on this? I would guess that the more original and unique your content is, the more traffic you will generate through paying customers.

Everyone IS doing it bro.

Seen the average porn site? It's HORRIBLY designed. Shows you how much time/effort/skills these web owners possess. Practically nil.

Starting a site isn't hard. It's getting traffic and convincing horny geeks to fork over $20/month for you that site that's the key point.

I suggest a fetish that's not so prevalent. For example -- a "girls kissing" site in the UK generates over $2 million a year. Shit like that.

you need consent forms signed from anyone you show on the site.
You'll also need a secure server for the credit card transactions, and of course, and for age verification. and traffic. which means you need to brush up on your marketing skillz.

Bro give me some info, you have always been good at knowing about this shit.

I have the design quality nailed down pretty good. but I do agree that most seem to purchase some kind of Website-In-A-Box and just click a few buttons to generate it.

It is not as profitable anymore, anyone can be a cracker these days. The tools are readily available. So there aint no geeks paying for your "hard" exciting work. I would suggest that an internet dating service would be much more profitable.

But I thought that 99% of porn pics were simply bought as bundles of stock photos.

Then again, if you are operating in another country, you probably can skimp on the signed consent forms.

no- child porn is child porn... the forms promise that the model is at least 18 years old and consents to his (i assume it will be male) pics being posted.
they are not stock photos, or nobody will want to pay for them cause they'll be all over the net for free.
plus, you need rotating content. even if someone pays ONCE, they won't pay again if its all the same material.

what do you mean by "crackers"?

Also the internet dating service is much harder to get into because there are some very big and well established ones out there that dominate the field already.

exclusively for men/men?

That is true. However, I was thinking new original content.

Or would rather than setting up something to issue accounts/passwords would it make more sense to go with one of those companies/programs that uses something like Adultcheck to verify age and membership? I suppose sites get a kickback from them when members visit it with an account like that.

If you bring NEW stuff/actress and lots of it, then you may stand a chance. That means, a site similar to Bangbros or those running the MilfHunting garbage. You see the style. But then again, only one site you may not be enough. Bangbros have (or had) like 5-6 different sites aiming at different fetish/segments.

As Razogun said, the average Joe can set up such site with stolen pics/vids. Be original and hire your own girls. Make them sign exclusive deals for a short period (like a year). That's what www.brunob.com does. I was told by someone in the bizz that he's actually paying his girls around 50-100$ for a scene. Add a digital cam, some editing software, a computer (which you already have) and you're good to go.

yes, you could use adultcheck- you'd have to pay them their commission but it takes the responsibility out of your hands.
you WILL need consent forms. you can get them on the net for free- if you need help, let me know and i'll send you one.
you'll probably also need a programmer to set up new content, deal with membership issues, and do some marketing/link exchanges, etc.

true. getting free passwords is easy.

there are some systems however (for instance where the site issues both passwords and usernames I think) that are harder to crack.

you wouldn't know what a cracker is?

And you think you have less competetion in porn? Naah!

And why stilleto has a wonderful idea!

Becoming said:

which is when having an in-house programmer is needed.
and yeah, i'm just full of great idea.

Ok, this is not a website geared towards millions of people.

Use one of those MILFs websites for example.

You have WEBSITE MILF.
Then you have different subcategories under this fetish : (since you have consent forms)
MILFs in action
MILFs doing anal
MILFs blow job
MILFs in bondage (EWWW)
MILF watersports
MILFs and MILFs
MILFs and other ILFs you can think of
then a section of mini videos of things.

So you use Dreamweaver to design the webpage layout.
Store all the photos in each subcategory in SQL Server tables
I guess store streaming videos in SQL Server too.
Link the tables to be brought up when someone clicks on the link. For example, you want to view MILFs doing anal. There is a thumbnail there with the heading title under it. You click that and it takes you to a new page that is populated with pics from the database table.

Then you upload all this to a dedicated server. Would it have to be offshore? For tax reasons or legal liability?

Next you set up a way to accept credit cards and verify age. (although most sites just have a box that says I AGREE I AM OF LEGAL AGE that you click to enter.)

Then you market it in magazines, etc... to attract people.

Ok, what else you need to do? I would have supposed there was infomative reading material on the net on how to start one.

No what I meant is that in online dating, there are some juggernauts in the field that has hundreds of thousands of members. Think about it. If you are trying to meet someone are you going to advertise on a site with a million members or a site with 1000 members? You want to increase your chances. you probably can't put a dent in those sites that have been around and proven themselves.

Yep. Flood the market with as many sites as possible. Each hitting a different fetish or angle.

Once you got one site, with server, pw, etc -- it's easy to just create different homepages for all the other sites.

Then you can advertise bullshti like "Sign up here and get FREE access to 100 other sites!"

All those sites off course woudl work off same material, usernames, web server, etc. But you'll get much more coverage, marketing in search engines, and different customers.

Look into international customers btw. not every porn customer speaks knows english. Many non-us customers are surfing the web nowadays.

So basically I have the right idea so far? As I described it earlier?

Now if I used AdultCheck or whatever it is called for age verification purposes or whatever... and I was expecting to charge someone $20 per month to access the site, what would the difference be that I would have to give them?

And is there any software that helps generate username/passwords?

There are a shitload of "turn key" sites that will do almost everything for ya. Startup investmens costs for you are almost nil. You just pay a monthly fee. All you do then is:

(1) decide on the content / fetish

(2) do the initial web pages

(3) do the marketing / get customers

Pros for you are:

(1) less investment costs / expertise required / effort

(2) less risk if things don't work out

(3) if your site takes off -- your server / host can handle it

I don't know what the best "turn key" sites are. Never ran a xxx site. I suggest perhaps checking with www.gofuckyourself.com

yes, there is that software- you can probably even find it on download.com
but the age verification i was referring to earlier is of your models, not your visitors. its a consent form, and you'll need a hard copy- an original from each model.

My suggestion?

Find a successful site(s). Email the owner and ask to arrange a business meeting and perhaps look into starting up a sister site with this owner's help, where you retain ownership but the owner can receive 70% of profits for the first year, plus additional marketing, etc.

Kinda like a franchise. You supply the money, time and energy -- he/she supplies the knowledge and guidance.

If you hit a snag -- find another successful site.

Piggyback off someone who's done the work and found the success formula. Don't reinvent the wheel. Too much crap to deal with.

As I said earlier, girls are dirt cheap. Since amateur style sites, are the flavor of the month, just get a digital camera and do your own editing. This is what people want. Girls nextdoor banged in cheap motel rooms. You get like 6-7 girls, have them do 2-3 scenes for different fetish and then set at least 3 websites. Then either each of them has its own age check/CC system or you just sell a "pass" for all of your websites making the deal look like the next best thing.

So where do you find the girls? Or do you just get the real hookers?

craigslist.org

or

go to their websites and email them. most porn stars have websites now.

FreakMonster said:
So none of these girls I see on the bangbros websites are really amateurs then?

if you want real amateurs -- go down to your local street corner, escorts in the yellow pages -- or strip clubs.

Hey glad to meet you AAP,

I can get you more info. than this but i'll get this out for starters.

A big thing you will need to pay attention to is the new "legislation" that's coming down on adult sites....a lot of forums and sites have already closed cuz they are scared to death of it so read on my man... www.xbiz.com/news_piece.php?id=9586 ....You had mentioned something about age verification....well for the most part you can kill 2 birds w/ one stone by wrapping up the age and payment verification at once....seeing as a lot of age verification software is based on being able to obtain a credit card, however, here is a sight for a service.... www.absoluteanonymity.com ... this may be a plus for more people to join your site using something like this...You also need to bookmark this next site... http://xbiz.com/ This an online adult industry / adult website resource site....anything and everything is here.

You also might start join some listserves for the industry to make friends, as well as start contacting people that you may have had brushes with that have sites, such as that HOTTY that used to post in EF forums Ann Angel...You can use these contacts to get higher end "tease" material to promote their sites, as well as having them promote yours, not to mention, give you valuable advise....sorry so sloppy, and I kind of jumped around a bit but i'm about to have a meeting....I know some people that know some people that I will pick the brains of for ya ok....hoped this helped.

Oh yeah, that site http://xbiz.com/ is HIGHLY recommended if you didn't already know of it.

Here is a page from the site that is geared towards "newbies" and people just starting in the industry. http://xbiz.com/article_bycat.php?cat=42

Good post. I nominate this "best of elite". :)

Two difficulties:

1) Continually getting slammed with excess bandwidth chargers as your business grows.
2) Finding unique content. Don't buy stock photos. Open an amateur site like yourhotnakedneighbor.com (no, I didn't check it) where people send you content for free. Make the nudes free to suck people in then charge for hardcore content.

Think of it as Elites growth problems X 100.

I pretty much as a very unique idea.

No 2 is easy. I dont know about your area but as I said, the rate around here for a "girl next door" type is less than 100$ for a scene. That means, for 1k$ you could easily get enough content for one site.

Bandwidth is a bitch and not easy to control....

BTW AAP, what about something like www.QueersFuckingYourGirls.com ?

I have been reading a bit on the xbiz.com website and it led to a few more questions. Basically I see the step-by-step process as :

Develop a catchy name

Get Webhosting space and buy/register domain name

Maybe buy one of those turn key packages that give you the entry/sign in screen (but it doesn't say anything about generating username/passwords unless it is included in that), a splash (welcome) screen, couple of banners and animated buttons/gifs (though not sure what I would do with those.

Load the content

Get set up with a credit card billing service and age verification service (this is where I need to read up more about these services)

upload all that once it is put together online

find someone that will exchange links to increase traffic or purchase advertising spots on a bigger board.

hit the marketing campaign with ads in magazines read by my target audience.

Continue to work on new material and updates.

Now keep in mind, I am not expecting this to take off and make $20,000 a month. Because then it would take up every minute each day running it. It is going to be small and only takes an hour each day or just time on the weekend to keep it going. If I make $1,000 a month I would consider that very successful by my standards and expectations.

that about sums it up. except...
good luck getting more than a handful of people to pay.... its harder than it looks.
hey.... there's your new slogan!
