How to change your host id name

I need to change the host id name of my computer in order to run some software. Can it be done? Or is it locked to the ethernet card?

What do you mean by host id name? system name or MAC address?

you can change the system name. What operating system are you running?

I am running win2kpro. Yes the mac address (the hexidecimal name)

As far as I'm aware, the only way to change the MAC address is to swap the NIC.

And now that I've said that, someone will probably promptly come on here and correct me, supplying a program that masks it. LOL
