lol....your think your smart md guy huh. Well you may be right on that. However, I BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH
ZZZZ sorry, I kind of dozed off there-I think I need some sleep *roll of eyes*
Oh omnipotent one (bowing to your greatness as I type), the one adage I have learned in my life on this earth is to never doubt a woman who thinks she is right, because it is usually ends up being a lost cause. However, I will take exception to this rule this ONE time, due to the fact that I'm not quite sure that you're a woman nor illogical like one
First of all, I don't care what a bunch of disgruntled, ruffian academic type-mathematicians think over the internet; I would recommend you use some real sources, such as print media. They say 2/7 =.285 that is wrong!!! 2/7 =.2857142 which is closer to .286 than .285 and would be rounded up as they say anyways. BUT it seems like they rounded after rounding, which creates more error in the end (to anything practical needed to a precise accuracy this is horrible)-a major faux pas for them and hence, their lack of credibility
I searched the vast mathematics library here and hereby cite the following source:
Gellert, W., et. al."The VNR Concise Encyclopedia of Mathematics"Van Nostrand Reinhold Company.1975.p609
Under the topic Rounding Off reads the following: "A usual method of curtailing decimal places is by rounding off. In this the last digit retained in unchanged, as in the method of truncating, if it is followed by a 0,1,2,3, or 4 (rounding down) The last digit retained is increased by 1, however, if it is immediately followed by a 5,6,7, 8, or 9 (rounding up) ...................
my note: yes, you are indeed correct, however let's read on
Only in the case for which the first digit neglected is a 5 followed by zeros is the rounding error exactly equal to half of a unit of the order of the last digit retained. It is customary in this case to round in such a way that the last digit retained is even
please read carefully For example 1/8= 0.12500 would be rounded
to 0.12 but 7/40 = 0.175 to 0.18"
OK, so what does this mean oh blonde-black booted one? Well, in your poll I will conceed that the accuracy in the tenths place of any answer is questionable and should be rounded as to your convention, however, my point all along is that if the answer is EXACTLY .5 --- well .5 followed by any amount of zeros--- that in some cases it should be rounded downward and think I have proved my point satisfactorily....
Since you NEVER lose, I won't tarnish your record and rub it in your face since I am always the gentleman....
....BUT I will graciously offer you the opportunity for a STALEMATE in this matter if you wish....hell, why not let's just make it a regular MATE while we're at it? *slavering*
