It wouldnt be wise. The TEF (thermic effect of food) only accounts for approx. 10% of total energy expenditure in a given day. So even if there was a difference, it would be negligble and make no noticable difference. (A good arguement though is FOR whole foods vs. shakes, as there is a more significant difference) Its important to thoroughly chew foods for proper digestion and absorption. Actually, Dr. Kinakin has evidence that one of the reasons most protein thats eaten isn't digested well is b/c of impoper chewing, and even for chewing while drinking a protein drink for better absorption as proper food digestion requires the mastication process to work properly. Digestion of carbs actually begins in the mouth anyway as saliva contains amylase which breaks down carbohydrate.
