how much accutane?

sausage

New member
how much accutane should i be taking? i weigh 205lbs and im currently taking 40mg's and for how long are you supposed to stay on?

You should be getting regular blood tests done by your doctor to monitor your health on accutane, there are a handful of side effects that seem to be common. I was taking 1 capsule every day, and then 1 EOD. In severe acne cases, 2 capsules daily are prescribed. You are supposed to stay on for as long as it takes for all of the acne to dissappear, of course, once it's gone, it's suppose to be gone forever. For some people this is a month, for others, over a year.

The doc should have told you... I hope you got it prescribed... I had liver panels done every month while on it back in the day.

Good choice though, stuff seems like it reprograms your skin!

Hey blaster, have you done any cycles since finishing your accutane? I'm wondering if acne can still come up because of a gear cycle.

i used accutane, i've done cycles and my acne has not come back. i had bad cystic acne on my back. its gone completely. i get a few zits on my face but nothing major.

It depnds on your body mass. At 200lbs you should be on 80mg/day. Be warned bro, accutane is not a drug to play around with. It can seriously fuck you up. Get it through your doc so he/she can keep an eye on your liver/kindey/heart function.

i agree with brittish bulldog. i can't remember what dose i was using but i think it was 120mg? i can't even remember, u could check some of my previous posts and find out. But it worked great. Just make sure you get a prescription for it so your doctor can monitor you. Some of the sides effects are nasty, but its well worth the dry cracking skin and lethargy because you'll have a good complexion when its over with.

I did 5 months of the stuff and it worked. I had bad, bad backne that would not go away and acutane took care of it. I still get the odd zit on my face, but I can take care of that by supplementing with a gram of B5 a day.

Get your blood work done and do it through a doctor, that shit is hard on your system. I couldn't wait to get off it.

Damn it. I ended up stopping my accutane 4 weeks into it because I figured my next cycle would make it come back up. It made me feel lethargic and depressed, which I hated. It also made me feel very negative.

I'm going to start taking it again, to finish out what I already have, at the end of my cycle. It's too expensive for myself to keep doing, and trying to stay out of the sun doesn't work well going into the summer.

i didnt get it prescribed cause i dont have insurance, but i will be getting blood checks every other month.if you guys are taking 80-120mg's i dont think 4omg's will be that bad ive been taking it for 12 days now.after im done taking it i want to start a cycle and im hoping the accutane will prevent me from getting acne.i havent done a cycle in almost 2 years cause i break out so bad when i come off.

I think its 16-20 weeks.

Its is NOT, I emphatically repeat, NOT to be taken "until your acne goes awya". Accutane is NOT FUCKING CLEARASIL.

You take it, your acne goes awaye, you KEEP TAKING IT FOR THE WHOLE LENGTH NEEDED, which is like 4-5 months, and THAT is what keeps your acne away forever (or close to it).

I was on it about 2 years ago......1 pill a day for i think 4-months......it drys your skin out like you wouldnt believe......it worked great.........but after my first cycle it all came back.....especially my backne......and my face is sooo soo.....great stuff though.......very dangerous also.......

My doctor told me to continue taking it until my acne was gone, which was 3 months. Obviously this differs from person to person, my little sister took it, again under prescription and a different doctor's advice, for 6 months.

I'm not pulling the "until the acne goes away" out of my ass. Rather, I'm saying that a doctor will tell you when you should stop taking it, and that's generally after all of it dissappears.

I don't mean any disrespect so please don't read anything into this statement, but I am not surprised to see the guys in the UK saying to take 80mg/day. The doctors in the UK have people on way too much accutane and it's been that way for as long as I can remember. 80mg-120mg is the dose that causes the sides that everyone is afraid of getting. You don't need that much accutane for it to get rid of your acne. 40mg/day for 4 months will get rid of it and you're likely to see only 10% of it ever coming back again. For the little that does return you can either take it again for 2-3 months or just use 20mg/day while cycling.
20mg/day starting 4 weeks before you start your cycle will prevent AS induced acne in almost everyone. And that's the way to use it for our purposes.

I think Ulter makes some good points. Also referring back to some of the other posts,

I think one key problem is that many DOCs do not know how to properly prescribed this stuff. When I harp on telling guys to take it for months and months (not just until you acne "goes away" for now) I am not slamming any individuals (so thanks for not being defensive). Its just that there is a LOT of misinformation out there about this, and frankly many Docs are the ones giving a lot of that info out!

What has happened is that SO many people are requesting Accutane that many regular (General Practitioner) docs are prescribing it, instead of sending their patients to Dermatologists, and Derms who actually KNOW how to work with Accutane correctly.

The result - "My Doc told me to take Accutane foe like 4-6 weeks until my acne goes away", which is WRONG information.

I agree with a lot of what Ulter said, and I have a very high level of respect for him. I do disagree on one point, the statement of:

" 20mg/day starting 4 weeks before you start your cycle will prevent AS induced acne in almost everyone. And that's the way to use it for our purposes."

I disagree with any "for our purposes". In My opinion, if you are going to take Accutane, do it right. Don’t deal with it unless you are REALLY going to do it correctly,. Take it, take it for like 4-6 months, take it to get rid of acne FOREVER (for many people that is the result) and then you are DONE with like 90% of your acne problems for life.

Using it as an immediate solution to be taken to deal with current breakouts, is not its best use. Its best used when taken as a regimen which creates a life-long effect.

IO realize that the method I recommend goes against what many kids on the board want to hear, they want a “now” solution, and normally don’t want to deal with anything that takes 4-6 months, but I have dealt with a lot of people who have used Accutane and I highly recommend that guys use it in this manner, and get the problem dealt with forever (for most guys).

But to each his own.
