Depends on your goal, usually when someone ask for calories it's on the subject of bulking so I will answer in that way
For me to exist and move I need roughly 2800 calories a day
Since I read, don't remember where, that an intense session of 50 min - 1 hour of weightlifting burns about 500 calories, I always add 500 calories to my previous number, what gives me 3300 calories for maintaining my body weight on a workout day, for me to clean bulk a 250 calorie surplus is good, what led me to 3550 calories a day to gain muscle on a workout day, on a rest day I subtract the 500 calories what gives me 3050 calories a day to gain muscle, as a general rule for those wanting to gain as much muscle as possible on a cycle with fat gain not being a concern, adding 1000 calories a day is a good idea so for me:
On workout days = 4500 calories a day.
On rest days = 4000 calories a day.
