how low carbs for how long?

when you guys go low carb how low do you go and for how long?
do you have a carb up day during the week?
how long can you sustain being in a shitty mood?
 
Dude i'm in the same boat.. Been dieting for the past few weeks and i've cheated almost every weekend and i can tell i would be much leaner if i had just one cheat day with actually only one cheat meal instead if an entire day... The longer you can go without the better, it's that simple and in my case i'll be trying to go with one cheat meal on the weekends instead of a carb up day

I honestly dont know how many carbs per day I take in, but i think its below 300.

I eat a small portion of tuna and 1 slice of wheat bread @ 4:30am dunno how many grams
I eat 1/3 cup of oatmeal and 2 2% milks with whey protein @ 7am. Thats 74g
For lunch 1 6-inch sub from subway on wheat which is 55gs
I take a PWO shake around 4:30 with 2% milk dunno how many grams that is
I eat a somewhat healthy dinner. carbs obviously vary here because the wife cooks it, but i try to keep it as low as I can.

So I know that I am consuming at least 150 carbs throughout the day, not including dinner. *shrug*
 
150 actually sounds ok and is what i'm around and i think i def need to go lower..

goals? stats? why are you going low carb? tell me more. "how low" is an open-end question. You can go to 20gr/ed to 200gr/ed.
 
20 ed would be freaking crazy in terms of how shitty you would feel. leave that for pro BB's.

so here is an example- if you were cutting for 12 weeks how low would you keep it at for the entire 12 weeks without cheating? this would be for somebody trying to get from say 18% to 10% BF. (assume the calories/cardio/supps/training/sleep are all dialed in) the only thing not dialed is carbs.
 
Get some ketostix to monitor your ketones. It takes about 72 hrs of low carbs (while training and doing cardio daily) to get into full ketosis where your bod starts eating muscle instead of fat. You wanna be borderline ketosis as long as possible. I like 3 days of under 50 grams of carbs followed by 3 days of a maintenance level of carbs(200-400grams/day depending on your size).

if I go 50 grams for 3 or 4 days I'm sure I'll end up beating my kids my fuse would be so short LOL.

The way it works is you'll be pissing like crazy after about 24 hrs of low carbs. You'll lose 5-10 lbs over the 1st 3 days and gain back something like 3-8 lbs on your maintenance carb days-for a net loss of around 2lbs every 6 days. If you don't lose 2-4 lbs every 6 days, you need to cut back on your carbs on your maintenance carb days until you do. Believe it or not, the 1st day of low carbs is the toughest to deal with. After that your insulin levels stabilize so you don't get hungry. You'll be dragging ass a bit, but nothing a few cups of coffee/ephedrine can't fix. Use the Ketostix-you can get them at walgreens by the diabetic stuff. You use these to gauge your progress over your low carb days-(you piss on them and they tell you how close to ketosis you are). They will keep you from cheating because if you do, it will throw of your whole schedule. Day one the stick should be brown. At the end of day 2 they should be pink. And at the end of day 3, it should be purple=ketosis. If you get off schedule, you need to eat less carbs the next day or increase cardio. That makes day 1 of your maintenance carb days the perfect time to eat a few cookies or something w/o guilt cuz they'll definitely go to replenish glycogen stores instead of converting to fat-just don't go crazy. After 2 more days of maintenance carbs, you'll be psyched to low carb again.

There's a book that you can buy called Sliced by Negrita Jayde that will explain all of this stuff in detail. Most Borders Books will have it or order it online at ???? It's probably one of the best BB diet books ever printed. I won my 1st overall after using 411 from this book, so I give it serious props. Good luck.

Crazy story on low-carb - I have been doing slin for about 6 months now so I just started using it to drop into ketosis. A person at the gym saw me drop about 8 lbs fat precontest using it and wanted in on it and said he'd pay me a consultation fee to show him exactly how to do it. I obviously wouldn't put him on slin so I outlined it for him and told him to take in no more than 10g carb the first day but I gave him 10 100mg r-ALA. He took 2 with no carbs sunday night and did 1 hour cardio, 2 in the morning with cardio, and 2 every 2 hours. By 4pm monday he was deep into ketosis. I am thinking about skipping the slin and just using r-ALA cuz he entered it faster than I did - I took humalog 8am-4pm and got into it by 10pm.


Anyways I did 5 days down 2 days up. Up days were fun =)

i tried to get into ketosis once before and it did not work.
now i'm 24 hours in of 50 carbs so lets see what happens.
what's the best time of day to dip the stick in my piss?

well I'm 55 hours into 50 grams of carbs a day and not into ketosis yet but I should be by tomorrow morning. I'll piss in a cup when I wake up.

Tonight I'll probably have no carbs which means today will be around 35-37 grams.

So then I'll hold ketosis for 5 days. then continue with 5 down and 2 up.

last night during my 30 min cardio (recumbent bike) was the most sweat to come off my body in years...it was freaky...maybe its the low carbs or the sesapure/glucorell.

What exactly is this sup. your talking about? I've heard of it but never could find any info on it.
 
me personally, i've given up cutting carbs, I get too upset, and randomly ravenous.
I just eat what I want now,, but I do 40 minutes of Interval training every day,, usually on an elliptical, keepin my heart rate between 140 and 150 for about 37 minutes,, and then about 4 to 7 hundred situps and crunches before bed(all in one set in front of the T.V with an exercise ball),, I'm cutting up way more now then I was when I was watching carbs. i'll kick it up a notch too, as soon as I can get up an extra 40 minutes earlier, i'll throw another 40 mins HIT interval on the elliptical, I wake up at 5 every day for work. Wireless Networking specialist,, Ugh....
 
7 days ago I started the 50 grams of carbs a day. I'm in ketosis now. how high can I go on the carbs now and still stay in ketosis?
