How is the American mafia doing?

Don't hear much about them anymore.

The terrorists stole their thunder.

Terrorist vs mafioso?

Terrorist strikes more fear. I think people would welcome the old mafia over the new terrorists.

Mafia wanted to make a lot of money and live large regardless of consequences. People could understand that in a demented way.

Terrorists? More like aliens. Americans can't relate to their mindset.

When you aren't hearing about the mafia is usually when they ARE doing well. All of the high profile, damaging members of the NY families are either dead or locked up.

The mafia's been replaced by hispanic, black, biker, aryan, etc. gangs which are 100x bigger and bring in way more money. But just not as "romantic" to the public as italian gangs (mafias).

its a food chain. the hungriest peoples have the meanest mafias. then they get rich, soft, known, and decadent, and another, hungrier group takes over. the italian gang members i know (and know of) are just weed pushers mainly. the russians are a bit of a concern. get a few of those pricks after you and you survive the first meeting, get yourself trained in killing asap

What I don't get is that the feds put 100% of their time into the eventual breakdown of the mafia but they aren't diong shit towards all these fucking gangs. Why not either hire private contractors or use swat personnel from multiple locations to go in and destroy or arrest the main gang members.

i studied in a city that was 20% italian. theres mafia there, and theyre italian.

I would say they are keeping a low profile since the Gotti culture fiasco. Also, yes there was something alluring about the Italian mafia, maybe it was the food (family feasts), music (Sinatra), and the girlfriends.

Hasn't been the same since the 1970's....hit their power peak in the 1920's-1950's, the US government created the problem in the US via prohibition.

disagree entirely...modern orgainized crime was booming into the 80's...then prosecutors started using the RICO statures.
first major mob case was in 1985, the commission case
