How is it in Florida ?

Anybody here lives in FL ? Thinking about a change in my life and I might have a good opportunity. SPain is another option but I'd like to try something new.

Wanna know fews things:

- How expensive is the life there ?

- What about the income taxes ? % ?

- property tax ?

- Laws ? Better than Cali I know but can we say it's conservative or some liberal flavor ?

- Is Miami that bad in terms of criminality ?

- Anything else you might know

Thanks.

Don't do it manny. Take your vacations there but the US is going into a very deep financial crisis.

I know the Gun Laws in FL are comparible to Arizona and Georgia. Their CCW is honored here as well.

I have the non-resident Utah CCW license. I know its valid in many states, maybe FL but not sure.

I'll definitely not spend the rest of my life in Canada. Things are getting worse every day.

You would be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Easy to be irritated by bad laws but, ultimately, the economy is more important. We are sending jobs overseas faster than a Vietnamese chicken feather puller.

Didn't know it was that bad there. I'm surprised.

The reports of increases in GDP are grotesque lies. We don't want people to know that OBL kicked our butts bad.

The only reason that real estate has done well is that people pulled out of the market and went into land. You have to put your money somewhere for growth.

Businesses that save people money are thriving however. $2 wine bottles are flying off the shelves.

*Cost of living is on the cheaper side of the average for US states.
The problem is that the jobs pay less as well so it evens out sorta.

- What about the income taxes ? % ?
* No State Income tax- I don't know of any City income taxes , Sales tax is 6-7% on many goods.

- property tax ?
*Property tax is average but depends on which County/City you live in.

- Laws ? Better than Cali I know but can we say it's conservative or some liberal flavor ?
*Florida is still a backwater conservative town atmosphere with exception to maybe Tampa, Jacksonville, Miami. The states Governor is Jeb Bush, and Yes he is related. Gun laws are very conservative and we have CCW complicity agreements with almost every state with exception of Alabama I think.

- Is Miami that bad in terms of criminality ?
*Miami is a Lawless, Cuban held territory. It's Broke as well

- Anything else you might know.
*Beautiful weather but you would die without A/C for 6 months of the year. Very Humid. Coastal areas are a bit better on this as they get a sea breeze. Every afternoon in July/August at around 4 pm, bad ass Thunderstorms roll thru and scare many a newbies with the lightening and thunder louder than you can imagine.
*No real change of season. It's Hot and Humid as hell, then it cools down a bit to the 70"s with maybe 4 cold fronts each winter that come thru out of Canada bringing it down to the hi 30's F for maybe 2 days.
*Just like everywhere else, the job market with exception of construction is stagnant or at least not growing fast. Even Florida's bread and Butter industry, tourism, is hurting because all the Scaird panty waste tourists won't fly.
*Nice thing is, you can choose a variety of lifestyles here. Either Big city like in Jacksonville, Miami or laid back Rural like in North Florida's Panhandle area, or Somewhere in the middle like in Central Florida.
*Women really do wear next to nothing in the summer, and I'm not just talking at the Beach. Grocery stores, malls etc.

Thanks.

I haven't lived there for a while, but I do know the crime in Miami is bad. Very bad in some areas. It can be pretty crazy.

Still an awesome place though. I miss it.

Cost to live varies dramatically. A lot of the new communities you can get a decent house for $150K, and these are usually dent investemtns. If you go rural it is even lower. if you want to benear the water, it ranges into the millions and higher. We have all tax brackets here.

If you live outside of south flrida, it is pretty cheap. Living there is relatively expensive. Miami itself is quite pricey.

No state income tax.

Property tax is about 2%, or $20K per $1M of property value including the house.

it is conservative outside of south florida. Much of Florida is redneck country. Sotuh florida is more diverse and more liberal.

Miami crime is like any other city. Some parts are really bad, most is not too terrible. Very ethnic city, ercommend you learn some Spanish if you don't know it.

Well FTL is not a back water town...

Just some advice... if you are going to move to Florida... do it right and get as near the ocean as you can. Why else move here?

If you know where to look, you can find some really good deals within 3 miles of the beach. You are not going to find any of the sleek new highrises, but you can find a building about 10-12 years old, 1200 sq ft and only drop about 150K on it. Manny sounds like a straight man, so redecorating is not going to be much of an additional expense. In my neighborhood, there are still a couple of houses that are going for $240K now. They are about 1800 sq ft and you have your own private yard and such. Very good deal because it has not been discovered yet.

Yes, Miami is bad, as with any place where 3/4th the population does not work. Or speak English. But it's days of being hip is long over. It is clinging on the coat tails of P Diddy and other BET hype and nostalgia. Versace and those glory days are long gone when you could walk down the street and be grabbed out of the crowd for an impromptu modeling session and pick up $400-$500 in cash in an hour.

Meaning, my neighborhood has remained under the radar of the hordes of people who like to buy houses, keep 3 months and then flip for a profit, thus driving up the value each time.

In Wilton Manors, you get these little 1940 cracker box houses, 2 bed room, 2 bath, 1600 sq ft that sell for $400K. You are only getting a $140K house that you STILL need to add $50-$60K into it just to make it a "home". The house has been bought and sold three times in one year.

Good shot there, TB.

You just mentioning the term "bath house" shows your orientation.

Move to Arizona, manny.

I lived in Miami for like 3years before I came out here to Europe. Personally, if your gonna live in FL then south FL is the place to be. There are sooo many fine girls there. :p But man, its hot as hell down there. Good thing is this makes the girls where next to nothing. ;) Im moving back there in a few months cause I have some unfinished business down there, but I plan on going elsewhere after that. South FL is good for vacationing or if you have a 2nd home there or something, but I couldnt live there year round. Oh, and I forgot about the traffic. Damn, traffic down there is a pain in the ass. LA, NYC, and Miami are 3cities that you dont want to have to drive in. Trust me.

We dont want any Frenchmen Here! :) J/K

PHX/Scottsdale is one of the nicest, cleanest places in the world. Housing is somewhat cheap, We have excellent Gun Laws, and there is still tons of economic growth here. Its hot but dry.
