To the best of my knowledge, you cannot make it by simply mixing compounds, so literally cooking up a batch in a bathtub is out. It takes a "lab" of sorts, but not necessarily a professional or commercial lab.

Make shift labs are often referred to as "bathtub breweries."

It is a very complex and involved synthesis. There are certain operations that have to be done at a certain temperature for a certain period of time. Like 14 hours or something. If you do it for 12 hours, you get one thing, If you do it for 16 hours, you get another. It has to be very precise to be done right.

Oh yeah and the byproducts stink to high heaven.

I knew a guy who was a chem major who negotiated some deal where he would manufacture somethign like 10,000 hits for a local dude. The dude would provide all ingredients and lab equipment. My friend just had to make a list. He was paid in hits of E, like 500 or something. That was $1500 at the going rate at the time for a aweekend (like 40 hours straight) of work.

I thought he was crazy. Never heard how it turned out.

These chemicals, if ordered in the USA, are more than likely on a watched list, and the DEA will be there to get you when you pick shit up, if you can even get that far. Most chemcal supply companies will require you to set up an account there with a credit card before you even order. Alot more do a backround check to see if you are in a business that requires the need for those specific chemicals. And don't think that you can get a fake ID, then get some credit cards in that name, and then order the stuff annonymously. The DEA is hip to that, and that's why they will just pop you when you show up to pick up. In order to do it safely, you would need to bring the chems in from either Canada or Mexico. Then all you need is a basic knowledge of Chemistry, a recipe, and a place out in the middle of nowhere to set up shop.

Some of the chems are: Safrole Oil, Red Phospherous, Methylamine. There are others though.
