How hard is it to build a decent website?

Me and my buddy promote 2 nightclubs and we wanted to build a website for our team. Something that's not too complex and pain in the ass to navigate. Maybe something with picture on there, calendar for special events and some cool graphics. Also easy to maintaing cause most likely I would have to update it every week.
Now...the main idea behind is having me trying to build it, is it possible? I'm pretty good with photoshop and designed some cool flyers for our nights. Now on the other side, last time I tried to build a website was like 4 years ago I think, and it wasn't a great success by any means. It worked and I'll leave it at that.
So is there anything I could use out there that already has premade templates or some easy software I could use for a beginer?

There's plenty of templates that can be bought on the Net.

It depends what you want your site to do. If you're only offering information then you may well be able to do it on your own. If you need a payment system etc then it may be worth your while paying someone to do it professionally or you're going to be pulling your hair out.

It's surprising how time consuming designing and building even a simple website is.

For now I don't need any payment systems, I was thinking selling t shirts on there and stuff but I would just put a link to the checkout to a site like www.cafepress.com. But for right now I want to keep it simple.

Anyway, good call on buying templates, totally forgot about that. I also just downloaded yahoo site builder to check what that has to offer.

FrontPage has all kinds of tempaltes. Plus you can download templates, graphics, etc. from all kinds of sites.

Best bet -- find a site that you like. Is very pleasing to the eye..

then copy it. :)

http://www.GoDaddy.com/

Not only are the prices cheap, but the "Website Tonight" thing lets you make pages with an editor.

You should be able to get a domain rights for $15-20/yr and website hosting for $6-12/mo (more with more features)

what i use to do was find a page i like and copy and paste their html and just change the words

or you could ask some Flash Guru to hook you up....

LOL

it can't be too hard. a dip shit from my town has one showing off his "beloved" hick town. dumbass

Be careful about flash.

Most people go overboard on the flash, and the sites turn up becoming hard to maneuver, non-intuitive, and very annoying. Not to mention having the opposite effect and making the site look fugly.

Flash done well -- is good.
