How hard are Civil Service Exams?

Im thinking about becoming a cop and all the departments require a preliminary civil service exam (this is in Texas if it matters). What do they entail and how hard are they?

Im not familiar with them so I have no idea actually. If its the same thing that postal workers have to take, then it cant be hard at all I suppose.

Ask if there is a book that you can study to prepare you for it. It's a relatively easy test, but if you haven't been in school for a while you may tend to forget things. Just prepare for it so you will know exactly what kind of questions to expect.

Yes, there are books and study guides out there that can help you prepare for the test. I hope you're a good test-taker - if not you might want to brush up on how to take tests. Sounds basic, I know, but you gotta plan your time wisely and have strategies.

Oh..and I never got back to you after you emailed me..any law enforcement career beyond the police like the FBI and CIA will be extensive and the application process is hell. I only got past having my application "accepted" via a college jobfair and had doubts about the lifestyle and demands so I can't say anything more than that..but they will not leave any stone unturned..or however way the saying goes.

Look into 'veteran's preference'...you get an extra 5 to 10 points depending on certain criteria added to your test score. I know you got an OTH but you still qualify.....
