i have a cat i need to bring home for a month. how do i get it there if i'm flying back? i know you can take pets on flights but isn't that somewhat dangerous?

You should call the airline your taking in advance. Tell'em you plan on taking your pet. Alot depends on where your going and the duration of the flight.

I flew with my cat and cockatiels about 15 yrs. ago. They had to be in those hard plastic pet carriers, the kind they sell in pet stores. Of course, the birds were in a seperate carrier from the cat...although they were friends, I don't think they would have flown well together. Call the airline to see what policies are now though. When I had mine, the airline allowed two passengers to take animals in the cabins as long as the carriers were small enough to fit under the seat...my animals had to go in with the luggage because 2 other passengers already had checked in with their dogs.

What Mrs. Puddles said....PLUS....You may want to take the kitty to the vet for some meds to keep her calm during the flight!

I worked for 2 airlines and I'm just confirming what everyone else posted. :)

Yes, the best way to go is to call them and find out their procedure (because airline policy varies). You could inquire about taking your cat along in a pet carrier and possibly have her own seat if they allow it, of course, plus you have to pay a fee if they do. Yes, there is usually a maximum allowed number of pets per flight so best to take care of it as soon as possible. Make sure the reservationist indicates this in your record...just makes it easier and hopefully you will get to take your cat along.

Yes, if you are going to have your cat transported in a carrier along with the luggage, think about getting him or her tranquilized. It's hard on a pet to travel this way. You might also want to do some searching on the particular airlines record for animal transport because I have heard some are not so good with lots of complaints of death and/or injury. :(

The planes cargo compartment is pretty much pressurized.
I think it has heat too, sometimes

Don't carry it on with you or everyone on the plane will hate
you when it starts meowing...
