how do you grow grass?

how long does it normally take once it's planted?

the grass in the yard, not the stuff you smoke :D
yeah, i bet most of you were thinking of the OTHER stuff.

Are you using just seeds or using a seeding system. (The kind with the tarp made of fertilizer and shit)?

I used the system two years ago, took 6 weeks for grass. The grass started out thin, but thickened up ALOT in 4 more weeks.

my dogs have torn the yard to shreds pretty much. it's half dirt and the rest of it is just nasty looking grass. it's all already "fertilized" with dog shit. anyone that has ever had a dog knows that the grass always looks the nicest where the dog does it's business. anyway, i raked up all the dog droppings into a few piles, dug a few holes, and buried it (i rent, what do i care? :D ) not gonna sod the yard cause of the dogs and the fact that i rent.

anyway, all i did was went out and sprinkled the yard with the grass seed. gave it a good coating where it's just dirt and i did seed over the grass lightly. had some kentucky blue grass mix.

is there anything else i should do?

Really you should have airated first. I've been successful by rakeing up about a 1\2 to 1 inch of dirt and breaking it up really good first. Then seed and fertilize. Then throw hay down to keep the birds from eating all your grass seed. Then water it every day for about a month. Your get a kick ass lawn.

Or if you want an eaiser way. Just mix a bucket of top soil, a little sand, grass seed and fertilizer and patch the places you want it to grow. The key indegrident is water all the time.

The best way is to mix the seed in with fresh topsoil and then distribute. Also, cover it with straw/hay. This will somewhat prevent birds from swooping down and eating it away.

You need to water the piss out of it too.

damn. sounds like i should've read directions. i figured you'd just toss it out there and let it grow.

it's gonna be impossible to water the piss out of it. between my 2 dogs and the neighbor's dog, there's a lot of piss in the ground.

so would i be ok if i went and got some fresh topsoil and covered the yard lightly? then watered down the piss?

You can buy sod almost anywhere.

throw it down half assed
water it every day for a week or 2

Presto its a lawn.

That may work. Keep in mind dog piss destroy's grass. Most likely that is why you have the spots in the first place. I have to patch mine every year with my 100 lbs GSD spraying like a hydrant.

Yea, but depending on the square footage of his yard, sod is expensive.

And Crak, yes, you could add some more topsoil to the top if it and then water it.

grass plugs are cheap, plant them close together. Sod is a good idea, borrow your lawn guys shirt and buy the sod at wholesale 45 bucks for a pallot. Seeding is the cheapest and less filling all all. You tend to get that then shiat.

i don't have spots in the lawn. half of it is dirt, the other half is grass. well, actually, 1/8 of it is grass....damn dogs.

ok, so topsoil over the top could help. cool deal. water it, no problem. fertilizer....got dogs to crap that out :)

i always buy seedlings by end of march; put them in a pot, let them grow for about a month. then put them out - and end of september/mid october it's
time to harvest. seedlings are very cheap; i pay around $ 8/each.
