How Do You Fight Evil?

OMEGA

New member
On a daily basis, or wherever, when you see evil, or something that needs to be set right, how do you go about adressing it?

Do you think you have the abilty to discern what is good or evil persay? And if so, how as an individual do you take personal steps on a daily basis to be a good soul in this existance.

this was inspired by the quote

" the only thing necessary for evil to prevail is when good people do nothing................."

examples of things wrong:

People with forked tongues

Apathy

Selfishness

Obviusous Rudeness

Out Right Greed

Abuse

I fight evil by not adding to it - I try to be the nicest Ceebs that I can be, in hopes others will follow suit. It's easier to be kind when other people are kind to you first.

Yes Ceebs the thought of Leading by example is a good way to negate the force of negative influence in your immediate area, or rather what you percieve.

But leading by example imho is a way of leading that is only good when all things are normal and people get the time to see what you do, then by watching apply what they have seen you do to themselves, or there practices.

What I speak of is doing things that require your active, not passive engagement when its time for you to do something.
For you as an individual to listen to that voice inside of you that says NO! I can't let you hurt people! I can't let you do that! And I choose to stand my ground in the face of you. ( whatever that you may be)

I believe in karma; not from a religious perspective, but from a philosophical one.

I consider evil to be that which destroys. Why not combat evil with creation? Create what helps people, not what hurts them.

If you are a good person, you have already beaten evil.

Some good replies, I believe in always letting the truth be known, it is your duty to an extent. peace

Uh....

Based on all the TV shows they make on the topic, it appears you have to do is run around in all kinds of weather with just a loincloth and boots on.

You'll know the bad guys....they'll be dressed from head-to-toe in warrior gear, but you'll manage to defeat them anyway.

I try to live a life as good as I can,I also try to make others around me happy and will defend people I dont even know when others are being pricks

I am fully convinced that character is developed over time from learning and experience. Character can be altered but never completely changed. IMO, Personal intentions seem to outweigh the "real" in people. The person they really are hides beneath the reality surrounding them. For example, if a person has a priority and it must be done, actions towards others will be altered.

That's how I explain it to myself every time I see a person do or say something absolutely ridiculous. I can only make alterations to my own character but not for anyone else. Although sometimes I wish I could.

I agree very much with this, I have seen it and felt it to be true

The root of people is there root, and while the branches, and trunk may look different through the weathering of time, there root underground is still largely the same............

great words,
thankyou:)

I rise before the dawn... strap a rusted sawed-off shotgun to my side... count my scant seven cartriges... then climb into my souped up V-8 with my trusted mutt dog... and we head out into the wasteland. There, I battle the tribes... the parasites that feed on the last survivors of civilization. And we all share a desperate need for gasoline. Without it I cannot continue my fight.

These aren't evil acts, they are lifestyle choices. You might as well have listed what tv shows people should & shouldn't watch.

the spirits of complaisancy, and selfishness are evil.............

they do nothing except to suck the life out of those who give life

Researching politics.
Not buying from Wal Mart, Nike, or other sweatshop, ripoff companies.
Corporate boycotts where needed.
Frequent donations to carefully-selected charities and advocacy groups.
Participation in rallies and demonstrations.
Not falling for marketed fake rebellion.
Speaking up even when I get negative karma for it.
Not blaming victims.
Writing letters to my legislators several times a week.
Choosing products that reflect my beliefs: not wasteful or overpriced.
Avoiding overconsumption of resources.
Avoiding toxic religious teachings that hurt people.
Reading a book a week on some social justice issue (death penalty, world hunger, Indian rights, etc.)

you sound very committed

can you give a summary of your backround?
rathger what life experiences led up to this way of life, because it is a "way"

thanks for sharing

this is a difficult question for me to answer... mostly because of my view on sociobiology.

BUT... personally, i like to target the arrogant, condescending, and oftentimes delusional denizens of the forest and help them down of their pedestals.

what a sweet thread.

you defined evil in a few ways...not that i agree with all of them...

but I address evil by attempting to become friends with him/her.

I think friendship is the answer

The above traits are not "evil", since they do not infringe upon the rights of others, they cause no moral wrong to my fellow neighbors, they do not deprive him of life, liberty or property.

Selfishness and greed are terms that are not wrong by any moral means, since they are extremely subjective and I can show you all day long how every person is guilty of these two "evils".

So you punish third world workers, because you don't like their choice of employment?

Reading a book a week on some social justice issue (death penalty, world hunger, Indian rights, etc.)

What the fuck is an Indian right?

I agree to an extent, I will shows respect to all undiscriminatly. However, I usually try and befriend those who are postive, who are more like myself in my closer circle. :)
