How do you cope with anxiety

I'm not even sure if I ever get anxiety. If anything, I tend to not react enough to things.

That said, I'm fairly obsessive about some things, so maybe that is my way of dealing with stuff. Doing things over and over again - usually in my head. Trying to anticipate what will happen next so that when it does, I have accounted for it and can react immediately.

I thought this was just normal, but I've been told by doctors otherwise.

Anyone have any experiences with meds?

buspar seems to work for me but it gives me insomnia, im up until 5am everyday so its not worth it.

Those are the anxiety herbs, Kava seems to work but it can cause liver damage.

Unless you were talking about pharmaceuticals, then i dont know. I only have experience with xanax & buspar. both work but i only use xanax on a PRN basis and buspar gives me severe insomnia.

Walk on the beach :)

Im starting to take up meditation, i think itll help.

there are no beaches around here. Maybe i can pretend the road is a beach and people's yards are the ocean and walk around topless in my swimsuit throwing bread at pretend seagulls. that'll help.

Klonopin will knock it right out. It's addictive though, but if it makes your life better, so what?

Wouldn't you try to attack the source of anxiety first?

yes but not all of us are rational people. Even if you attack the source of anxiety you still have a personality that responds to trauma by developing anxiety. its like fixing a wet rug when you have leaky pipes, only a temporary solution.

Writing stuff out usually works for me.

Like if you're stressed as shit, write down what you're so stressed out about. Usually once you look at it, you realize you don't have too much to worry about.

Works for me.

-or, i look at ogrish.com or watch that "lightning bolt" video and say to myself "quit your whining you little bitch, these people have it worse than you do"

:)

Those meds don't sound to good, I have social anxiety I read some stuff on paxil.com and it describes my personality and the things I do, anyone use paxil before??

Alright I guess the meds are out of the question then. What about therapy? I feel like if I take meds or talk to someone it will only be a short term fix and it will eventually come back!

Maybe I'm stuck with this social anxiety for the rest of my life!

I've had anxiety issues all my life, only discovered it in my early 20s.. really sad. Medication sush as Paxil for the most part helps, but try getting of them, the sides make you feel worst then ever.

Physcial activity seems lower my anxiety. I managed to lower the dose of Paxil since I started working out. Also there are a lot of natural suppliments which help, try a search on Paxil in this forum, there have been many discussion as well as several members who have found positive results from a few natural suppliments.. and are none habit forming.

Good luck!

not necessarily. Just because some people react badly to paxil doesn't mean you will.

Also paxil is just one drug of one class of drugs used to treat anxiety, the SSRIs. There are still all the other SSRIs, There are still benzos, theres buspar, there are herbal or nutrional supplements, there are behavior treatments, etc.

i feel the opposite way, that meds will make me stable enough for therapy to have long term benefits. Without meds i feel therapy would be like trying to build a dam out of branches to hold back a river. somewhat futile.

That might get you admitted somewhere... :D

Coincidence, I was looking at a product that popped up online called BeCalm'd. Ive managed to read a lot of studies on it and it seems really interesting. It's all natural by the way.

Anybody have any feedback on this?

never used becalm'd but here are the ingredients

Each Capsule Contains:
D/L-Phenylalanine 300 mg
L-Glutamine 150 mg
5-HTP 5 mg
Vitamin B6(pyridoxine HCL) 1 mg
Calcium (chelate, citrate) 50 mg
Magnesium (chelate, oxide) 25 mg
Folic Acid 0.01 mg

I would try to avoid medication as much as possible. I honestly believe that there is a solution to these problems with in our selves, and it’s what I’m working on now. Therapy helps but it was difficult finding someone who was capable.

Exactly right. My girl basically gets anxiety attacks now planning for our wedding and dealing with work, money, etc. Away from that she would get mildly depressed at times. I refuse to let her on any Rx meds mainly due to the sides and potential addiction, so I was wondering if this is a viable alternative.

Can a person get that online or is it a schedule IV drug.

Not sure. I think it's a scheduled lV drug, but I believe that almost any competent Psychiatrist would give you a prescription if you need it. You can take it the rest of your life if need be. Does not shorten your life.

Check your pm Nordstrom. I know quite a bit about this.

Kava
Magnesium aspartate
B6

and find a comprehensive chick

It is a class IV drug. Klonopin is in the benzodiazepine family also. It'll do the trick if your looking for a quick medication.
