Hoping things get better someday!

I just have to vent here for abit guys/girls. I hope my life can just be stress free very soon. I'm a Junior in College going for Finance and I have so much work that gets me so stressed out. I work but can't put in enough hours to make enough money so I have a hard time paying bills and surviving. With such a bust schedule I get so stress out, I losing hair and on the way to developing an ulcer.
Anyways, with all this crap that I want to do for myself(even though it's tough I know I can do it, and I want to) My car breaks down tonight on my way home from work. Now If I don't have a car to get to class/work I'm screwed.

I'm going to look at my car tommorow when it's light out, I hope it magical works tommorow. If not I'm really screwed. On top of all this I have to finish another 140 pages in a book and write a 5 page paper on it by Tuesday.

I'm really down and upset right now, so thanks for taking the time to read this. Thanks people.:(

What happened when the car broke down? Describe it exactly. Maybe someone here can give you an idea as to what the problem might be, and then how much it might cost to get it fixed bro. That might not ease your mind(then again it might if it isn't a big problem), but knowing what you need to do is better than not in my opinion. Either way brother, that sucks. Keep chipping away though.

I started it up after work and it started fine. Then I was driving in first gear, then when I went to put it in second it just completey died on me. The engine died and all the service lights went on( oil, battery, service engine soon ect...).

I tried starting it and it just wont turn over and start. It's like when if I hold the key it keeps trying to start by going GagaGaGa( ya know what I mean).

Thanks....

Hang in there man. I've been thru that shit too. Sometimes it seems like thinks can't get any worse. Just put it into perspective. You're not dying or starving. Things will get better.

If you start it up tomorrow, and the engine does turn over, yet the "service engine" lights and other interiors come on, it could be a fan belt. Another sign that this is you problemo bro, would be the heat guage pegged as high as it can go, and the radio not working. Depending on the model/year/etc. all those run off the alternator, and if the belt broke, then therein lies your problem. You can buy a new belt at Beacon or wherever, for probably 10-15 bucks if I remember right. Just make sure that you have your make/model/year handy so that they can give you the one you need. That is just a guess though as to wether that is your problem, as I had something similar sounding happen to me once. I am no mechanic by ANY stretch, so I'm speculating. Like I said though, if it is a fan belt, then you are talking easy fix.

this happend to my old car once, it was the main spark plug wire, the one that go's to the ignition or whatever, or coil or whatever that fucker is called.....but i hear ya man, i'v been down for about a year now, it sucks

All of us "down & outers" oughtta get together in Vegas/NYC/Atlantic City/South Beach, or wherever is most convenient one weekend & go hog-friggin-wild!

thanks for the support guys. I just got back from looking at it. I Think it might be the main plug like someone said, because there is no spark making it turn over. I put a screwdrive in the plug area and tryed to see if there was a spark and there wasn't. I'm no mechanic so I just got it towed to a shop and they said they'll look at it monday. I'm just hoping for the best and that it be something simple.

To top it off I was up till 4 last night doing school work and woke up at 8 to check on the car:( Finding was to work/school is going to be rough monday.

Again thanks for the support guys.....

It ended up being my distributer. I have no clue what its going to cost but I have that cost plus towing charges. I have to get dropped off at school and then picked up.

Ouch, I am a slight mechanic. Not only do distributers cost near 200 dollars at times, they also like to charge alot to replace them. Not to get you worried, but I would guess you need to expect a large bill. What make/model/year is the car?

Ouch again.. to be honest.. my estimate on what the shop will charge you should be atleast in the ballpark of $350. Sorry.

I hope you took it to a good shop. I have had my share of shops that rip you off. I payed 350 for my distributer in my old car (that i should have done myself for 180 (parts cost)). While I have replaced my Distributer countless times since then now. so simple on the older cars. BTW, both of my cars are 76, the old one a Buick Skylark, the new one a Chevy Nova. Considering they are older and easier to work on, you may be looking at a heftier bill than I. Though, I'm not sure what region you live in, because just like housing cost varies from area to area. Good luck to you.

I already had my car towed to the shop and the mechanic looked at it and figured out the problem:( If I knew it was the distriubter I would have done it myself and just brought it to a gas station to check it with a timeing light when I was done.
