Got a question for the brewers. In a 10g conversion how many grams are lost in the sludge at the bottom (assuming you just toss and don't try to coffee filter the remaining good stuff)?
Also, when you have your finished product should it have a slight seperation in color? I'm taking, very slight, from about the bottom third of the bottle up.

I don't know about the loss, but me personally, have never noticed a seperation.

BUT, I would always rotate the bottle several times before use just to make shure in case of such a thing happened.

Once again, I myself never noticed one, but that doesn't mean that it can't happen.

So when you brew up a 10g kit, how many mg's are you figuring per cc? Obviously there is a loss in the waste but ball park, how many mg's do you think you end up with per cc?

It depends, how many ML's of oil is in your 10g kit?

Take the number of ml's of oil your kit comes with, most likely 100ml. Take 10G divided by 100ml and you'll get the number of mg per ml.

"IF", all was dissolved and you retained all of the fina, it would equal 100mg per ml.

Here is a chart of conversions. Not exact since some kits might have a little more or less oil that what is shown, plus the loss during conversion, but will get the point across.

2g = 25ml (2g / 25ml= 80mg/ml)
4g = 50ml (4g / 50ml= 80mg/ml)
6g = 60ml (6g / 60ml= 100mg/ml)
8g = 80ml (8g / 80ml= 100mg/ml)
10g= 100ml (10g/ 100ml = 100mg/ml)

I usually lost about 2ml from Sister Sludge.

I like that, sorry orb, but i'm gonna steal that phrase for later use

I have noticed some color seperation when I have used heat in my brewing process, and discolored it some (darker)...I just shook it up and it worked fine, just not as pretty as the golden yellow color.

the color separation IME is from pushing the last bit of oil throught the filter (which in turn cleans the product out of your filter). it sits on top of the finished product and doesn't mix in easily, making it look like color seperation.

(I am my boyfriend's home chemist. :D)

Excellent. That answer makes total sense and looks like what I see. Grazi!
