Homebrew bros, final sterilizing "bake"??

tical

Banned
So I brewed up my first batch of primo & deca (separately)... everything looks good, did everything as suggested went 2/20 ba/bb & waited 7 days...

I've read the BA is enough to ensure a sterilized product, but being my first time & all, I'd still like to go through with baking it to make sure its all good

Everything has already been placed into 10ml vials..

What i'm looking for is the best temperature & duration to bake at as well as some "don't worry bro, the vials aren't going to explode from the heat" type input :)

thanks guys

Bro. Although it is probably not necessary, I just feel better when I bake bc in my head I want as little as possible of a chance of getting an infection. I would do 250 F for 20-30 minutes. Put a little needle into each bottle to realize the gas that will build up. The little plastic ends of the hypo needles will not melt at a true 250, but they might at 300 F so buy a thermometer. Also, use vials without labels bc those have been known to char, especially if you have spilled solvent or oil on the bottles.

Damn man, your so lucky. I want to start brewing my own shit and maybe

sell some too while i'm at it. Two summers ago i grew some weed with a friend

and we ended up making 16k a piece. We grew 20 small batches in different

locations off of a trail in a park. You should try it bro . . .

You heat it up to mix it and too sterilize it prior to putting it in vials. You run it through a filter to sterilize it and put it into a sterile vial. No need to reheat after it is in vial.

250f melted the plastic on the needles in about 5 min hehe... my oven probably sucks

good thing i only tried 5 vials!

think i could do somethin like 200 for 30 min?

glover, i hear what you're saying but i'm just paranoid... i'm sure all of the other UG shit i've used doesn't re-bake but being that this was my first time i can't help but want to go that extra mile!

BRO! Sorry to hear about that (Told you to buy a thermometer!) Don't throw the gear out bc it is virtually impossible for the plastic to go "down" through the needle and contaminate the gear so it still should be good. If really worried, re-filter. You need to acieve minimum heat of 212F (boiling water temperature) which, I'm betting on your oven is around 200 so 30 minutes should be fine. Like I said, theoretically baking isn't necessary but if it is going out for consumption by others you do not want to be responsible for causing any infections!

i kept the gear, im sure the plastic didnt drip down... i pulled them out just as they were starting to wilt and sag

i'll try setting my oven to 212 and see how that goes

most of this stuff is for me but i'm going to give a couple vials to some buddies of mine and just want to make absolutely sure there are 0 probs

thanks for all the help so far

Now thats a true friend.....Give it to them first and let them inject first..If their arms dont fall off..then your gear is good...HAHAHAHAHA I would do the same lol

bro,200deg/10-12 min is plenty---bacteria dies off @150degrees

That's why I don't bake mine. After doing every procedure with caution I boil water and place the vial in the boiling water with the needle in the vial. I shut the heat off then place it in the water for 20 minutes. Good to go.

baking wont remove toxins already produced by hungry bacteria but it will prevent more coming.. i've gone as high as 275 for 40 mins when I needed to resterilize a bad batch and didnt seem to affect to potency.

best thing to do is not to use vials over 20ml, otherwise you introduce too much shit over the course of long term drawing from the larger ones.

That is an excellent point and one many fail to realize. Each "draw" potentially introduces more bacteria into your vial. My solution, however, is to re-bake my 50ml vials from time to time. As, I pointed out earlier, baking is probably unnecessary, the primary sterilizing actually resulting from the BA/BB and the microfiltering, but bc I have never had any problems before, I don't want to jinx things by changing my procedure. In my book it's not a good idea to try and fix something that ain't broke....
