Hollyfield fight

Rex

New member
Hollyfield won by split decision. Anyone see the size of the lump on Rahman's head?

It's a shame Holyfield is retarded now. Not that he was too bright to begin with, but he really needs to retire. He's ridiculously punch drunk now.

I met Holyfield about a year ago and he really didn't not seem like he was all there. You could tell all those punch have taken a serious toll on him after only talking to him for a couple of minutes.

That is so sad! He gave me his autograph in 1985 i think it was after he was in the olympics and he seemed intelligence i suppose. Certainly not punch drunk. I wish he had quit sooner.

I think he's like the lightest heavyweight champion ever. His frame and skeletal structure probably couldn't cope with all the years of getting beat on by the big boys. I mean the guy is a natural middleweight, I don't know if he could even have made heavyweight status without the juice. He is one hell of a pure boxer though.

Lightest heavyweight champ ever? Nah. Back in the day there were guys 185lbs fighting as heavyweight. Of couse I am going way back with that. But even after the class was 200lbs and up champs have weighed around what Holyfield weighs. Holyfield fights/fought around 212-220. Muhammad Ali fought around that weight. I know he was 215lbs for one of the Fraiser fights. Tyson's only about 220lbs but he is shorter.

I was shocked by Holyfield's hand speed, and you could clearly see the power is still there. I thought he spoke pretty well after the fight. Even so, although it might sound interesting to see him fight the winner of Lewis/Tyson, either of those fighters might be too much for the old guy.

Good points, but the guy is definately the smallest in our times. Ali payed the price too though. I'd argue that Holyfield still has the smallest frame in the heavyweight division when it went 200+. Everyone knows he took some gear to get to that level, Ali on the otherhand, I doubt he ever dipped into the juice. Tyson is one of the smaller ones too, but like you stated, his height negates his lower weight.

DAMN!

Yes Holyfield is smallest big name champ of this generation. Michael Moore was no giant either but he had the title for like 5 months. But Ali is paying the price and Holyfield certainly us starting too.

And YIKES!!!! on that lump.

That lump was insane!

What's that metal plate they use to bring swelling down? They press it against the skin and push hard?

I'm surprised they didn't cut it open to reduce the swelling. It would have been a shitload of blood but they do it all the time when their eyes start to swell.

Oh shit!!! He almost looks deformed with that knot on his head like that! Kinda like the elephant man or something. Sometimes I wonder if some of these guys actually use the headbutt as part of their fighting strategy. I just seem to remember Holyfield/Tyson or one of those guys, can't remember exactly who, headbutting some other fighters before too. Probably just a coincidence.....

Holyfield has been renown for head butting incidents. They claim it's his style that does it but damn that's a lot of head butts. It was all the head butting that set Tyson off supposedly

Holyfield wants the winner of Tyson/Lewis, but he won't get it. I don't think either of them would be intrested in fighting Holyfield. He will most likely end up going up against Ruiz again. They mentioned Byrd, but Holyfield wasn't intrested in fighting Byrd, he says he doesnt like his fighting style or somethin.(Sounds like an excuse knowing he would get his ass kicked).

Personally, i'd like to see a Rahman/Holyfield rematch, but i doubt that would happen either. It was a pretty even fight until it got stopped due to the bump, maybe in slight favor of Holyfield but not by much. Holyfield is notorious for head butting when fighters lock up close.

After the few head buts, he landed a few jabs to the same spot and it swole up big time. If that didn't happen, and it went the distance, i think Holyfield would have eventually worn down in the later rounds, giving Rahman a chance to make a big push, or knock him with that straight right or big right hook.

Who knows though, i'm just stating personal opinion. I'd like to see a rematch cause that fight really didn't settle anything fair and square. Highly unlikely for a rematch between these two though, because Holyfield will be seeking a title shot from somewhere, rather than waste time fighting Rahman again, and thats a damn shame cause i don't think either fighter wanted it to end up this way.

Damn thats a nasty looking lump.

I reckon that Holyfields still got quite a bit left in him, his reflexes still seem decent.

He should retire now though if his health is getting worse, i dont want to see him ending up like Ali has.

That's exactly what I was gonna say; Tyson was livid about the head butts, many of which are clearly deliberate. Holyfield was making some comment post-fight about keeping your head down, etc... but with his height, and if you've watched his previous fights, whenever he's up against a clearly tougher opponent that opponent seems to get many, many head butts and cuts on the brows.

BTW, he'll never see Tyson again because Tyson has said he'll never fight a Don King-promoted opponent.

If you heard him recently, he is 39 years old and is definitely showing signs of neurological injury (aka dementia pugilistica) a la Muhammed Ali. Hope he invested his money well.

Sorry - but head-butting intentionally - NO WAY.

Evander would have just the same odds of having the lump himself - intentional - no way

I MET HIM AT A SUPERBOWL PARTY IN FEBUARY (OR WAS IN JANUARY?). HE REALLY DIDNT SAY TOO MUCH AND DIDNT SEEM ALL THAT AWARE OF HIS SURROUNDING. HONESTLY, I DONT KNOW WHY HE IS FIGHTING. I DONT THINK HE CAN WIN THE TITLE AGAIN AND HE DOENST NEED ANY MONEY.
