Hey Marines!!

I've been invited to go to the Marine Ball this weekend, and I'm just curious what I should expect. I've heard it's more of a ceremony than anything. So what should I expect?
 
BRING OUT THE CAKE!

Lots of interesting uniforms and ceremony. Then the heavy drinking.

(at least that's what I'm told... My wife and I couldn't make it to the one here last year due to a baby sitter falling out at the last minute)
 
Once the ceremony is over, it's just a huge party. We are having ours at a casino on Saturday. It's gonna be sick. Where are you? I have been to balls that have been in the field, in a plane hangar and in a 5 star hotel. I guess it depends on what unit the person belongs to. You'll have a good time wherever it is.
 
I'd been told there was an open bar. Plus, I was told that we were all going to have rooms at the hotel. This one is at the Hilton. I'm looking forward to it.
 
They will play a video tape from the Commandant of the Marine Corps, there will be a cake cutting ceremony where the oldest and youngest Marines present get some cake. The CO and guest of honor will speak. It will probably take about 45 minutes. If you have a weak bladder, don't drink much before the ceremony.
 
I'm determined not to drink much during the whole thing, open bar or not. lol.

I'm all set for it though. I went home and got my dress last night. Now all I have to do is figure out what to do with my hair. It's hard to do an updo with short hair. :(

onerep: where was the ball in the plane hanger located? I was invited to the ball as well this wkend...in Beaufort, SC....in a plane hanger. lol

At this point we have decided not to go b/c he said it wasn't mandatory...but this thread makes me want to go.
 
I got mine on the 10th. The actual Marine Corps Birthday. Fucking OOH-mother fucking-RAH. This is my first ball. I missed being the youngest in my company by a day, thankfuly. The youngest in my Bn was born in '85.

Give them an ooh-rah when parting ways. I can't wait to get my blood stripe so the blues look that much better. A few more medals would be nice, but won't happen for me in my MOS and the unit I'm in. Overseas and a possible MUC is all I can walk out of here with. Maybe a NAM as well, but doubt it.

You should go. One of my friends is going to one here in town. Mine is about an hour and a half away. I'm looking forward to it.

maybe because the units i've been with are shitty and you always have to buy your own booze.
 
Humm, I'm not really impressed. She looks like a secretary or something. You'd think they'd sex-up the uniform a bit. All the military-themed porn I've seen should be the benchmark.

Anyway I have a few balls under my belt and you can expect lots of heavy drinking and many drunk JARHEADS. There are always lots of high rank but you will still see a few fights. Well the onles i was at anyway. And what do you mean they are not your type? :)

Lamamcita: Is your b/f stationed at Beuafort Air Station or Parris Island? I'm thinking of going to Miramar next out in Cali.

TimRock: What units were you with? I hate fucking 9th ESB.
 
He is in Beaufort. He doesn't like it very much because all Beaufort has is a Wal-mart. You can get to Savannah, GA and Charleston in 45 min, though. I think he liked the base in Japan much better, but he likes being semi-close to home. It is all a trade-off.

Rex, this goes for you too. I never actually said they weren't my type. I like Marines. lol. Military men are great. ;) I'm probably going to be in hog heaven this weekend. However, that doesn't mean that any of them are necessarily the someone I would want to sleep with. ;)

I was stationed in Jacksonville, NC for 5 years. That's where I attended most a lot of that balls that I've been to. Just a big hangar with free kegs in each corner. Oh to be 19 again.
 
Ahh you know how it is. Alot of Jarheads thinking they are tough because they are Marines and throw the Liquid courage in there and stand by. lol. The fights that I seen over pretty quick and I think they where pussies.

you'll have fun. its a nice affair, very nice. make sure the guy you go with rubs elbows with his higher ups, so you can get the hook up for drinks. hehehe.

I was in the Marines from 87 to 91. I never went to any ball, but knowing how Marines are, expect a lot of heavy drinking and testosterone. Sometimes jarheads get stupid drunk. I know I did.
