I am ...was a cardio junkie. I love nothing more than running 10 plus miles every morning and then following it with a great weight training workout later in the day. Now I am injured and can not put pressure of any kind on my left leg. - I did something to my calf - can't tell if I have a pull or a stress fracture. Anyway...the weight training is going better than ever but I am freaking out with out my running. I am walking on the treadmill at a 10% incline , decent speed (until my leg kills) but I know I am not burning the same calories. Obvious answer is to eat less. The problem is - with the weight training I am hungrier than ever!
So, today I tried an appetite suppresant and I am hungrier and more tired than usual! Infact after breakfast, I ate my lunch!
Enough of my whining, what do you guys do? Is my cardio that important to keep body fat down? According to the tanita scale I am 100lbs and 8%. I feel like 800 lbs and 100%!!
I also have a stairmaster pt 4000 at my house but I am not sure if my leg will cooperate. Sorry to ramble!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your leg :( But the most important thing you can do is to let it heal. If your still experiencing pain, then it's not healed yet. Pain is nature's bandaid. Appetite supressants are not the way to go. Walk the treadmill like you are doing for a lesser period of time. Not until you feel pain, but enough to loosen up and warm up. Make your weight training session intense and quick moving. This way you will burn more calories with the heightened intensity, and get some cardio in moving through it at a faster pace. As for diet, don't worry! Just because your not running does not mean your going to get fat! You need to heal your existing injury before you start running again. If your eating right, you shouldn't feel that hungry. You could lower your calories a little, but try to eat 6 small meals a day. Small meals can consist of two items....like chicken breast and a potato....etc. If your spacing those six meals equally during the day every 2 - 2 1/2 hours then you shouldn't feel as hungry. Just make sure that your meals consist of healthy foods that contain protein, complex carbs (like potatoes or rice), and healthy fats that are unsaturated. If your diet is clean, and your training is going well, then you'll feel 100% better. But stay away from the running shoes until your leg is healed. :)

Sounds to me like you were overtrained and this is probably a blessing in disguise........lack of appetite is numero uno when your body is beat down.....nix the cardio for a little bit or just do the mild bit that you are doing on the treadmil.....bet you see some good results....

Wow!! You guys are the greatest!! Thanks for the excellent advice! You are both absolutely correct! I have jsut worked so hard to come this far! Thanks again for your answers!
