i have high cholesterol while on roids. what can i take to lower my bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol, i can get prescriptions so are there any prescription cholesterol meds that lower cholesterol?

First thing to do if you're not going to get off the gear is to eliminate your fat intake. Then you can look at buying an over the counter supp called "policosanol". It's supposed to drop the bad chol and raise the good chol. BTW, I read somewhere that winnie really drives your chol up. Just try to cut the fat from your diet and keep an eye on your levels. Get a Cholestrak kit at Walgreens. It checks your cholesterol and is about 95% accurate.
Only cost $15 for 2 kits.

There are drugs called statins prescribed to lower the big C. Also eating oatmeal, flax and yogurt along with a low fat diet really helps.

yeah orals like oxandrin and winny really crank mine up too, EQ and deca don't do it so bad though. The bad thing about most cholesterol lowering drugs is that they are liver toxic, my doc won't even give me a script for those. You can try a drug called Niaspann that is very easy on the liver( relatively). Works pretty well for me, lowered my LDL from 198 to 162 and my HDL went from 25 to 30 after 3 months- along with a lowfat diet and daily walks. I also hear that pantethine or calcium pantethine( not B-5 or panthothenic acid) also lowers the "bad" cholesterol. Its a little pricey so I haven't added that in yet.

You can look at taking the 10mg or if need be the 20mg tabs of Lipitor. It works very well and your levels should be down within 3-weeks. The key ingredient though is to eliminate as much fat from your diet as possible (as the rest have reccomended).
The only problem with taking cholesterol meds is that the are quite harsh on the liver and if you are on gear it may cause unnecessary stress to your liver.

what about twinlabs cholesterol success. it is supposed to reduce cholesterol 24 percent. anyone try this

Go on a low carb diet (<60) for four weeks..it will lower your total, lower your LDL's and raise HDL's to create an ideal ratio. It's not the AAS, it's the high carbs you take while on a cycle. High insulin=high cholesterol.

DrJMW you are very correct sir. low carb diets also do wonders for triglycerides as well. Many other benefits as well.:)

Be very carfull with lipitor , my doc just took me off because it raised my( cpk) to 594 on a scale of 224 indicating muscle damage so ther checking my liver and heart because i'm having some chest pain.

yup....the anticholesterol meds will increase your risk of rhabdomyolisis, which is characterized by muscle breakdown. Also, very hard on the liver.

Lipitor, in my opinion, is the "bandage on the broken leg." Most cases of high cholesterol are because of high carb intake and some insulin resistance. Glucophage would be a better choice, but again, just another bandage. Suppose this patient has low Test and HGH/IGF-1 levels. Optimize the hormone levels first, and one may see improved glucose utilization. Improved glucose utilization leads to lower cholesterol levels. Don't believe for a minute that high cholest. is caused by fat..no way. Remove the insulin factor and the carbs, and fat has no role in the fabrication of cholesterol.

Just a point I made last week about docs treating symptoms and not people as a whole. The magic pill syndrome. Forget it. Look at appetite suppressants--yeah, they've really worked over the years.

Are there any other over the counter supps besides Policosonaol. I heard someone mention a product by Twinlab.

yes it is the gear. Steroids raise cholesterol !
and anabolics that are 17 - AA raise cholesterol by as much as 70% over other un 17AA. Testosterone is probably one of the best drugs for people who get high cholesterol when on gear.
dont listen to any idiot who thinks gear does not raise cholesterol.

cholesterol is made in the liver, an steroids pass the liver, raising cholesterol (cholesterol is a hormone as well, and when your hormones are out of wack, cholesterol is out of wack).

damn, you are a doctor? please, dont be a doc in my area!

Go ahead and laugh, but I just recently read that eating more foods containing oats, like oatmeal is very beneficial in lowering cholesterol. *shrug* Don't know if it's true, just thought I'd pass it on.

one otc supplement you can use that I don't think has been mentioned niacin.. but only if you can stand the "niacin flush"

Don't use regular niacin.Get some NO FLUSH NIACIN.I've used Twinlabs version of it,and I've also seen it in drug stores in the vitamin section.Brought my cholesterol levels back to normal in no time.Good Stuff.Use this, especially when "ON" cycle.
