Help! Need advice-going on a cruise in 2 weeks!

Hey ya'll!

I am doing really well-with a lot of help from Raina :) My goal for today is to eat three meals--so I am really open to this "clean" way of eating.

My question is:

I am going on a cruise with my mom in 2 weeks-leaving on the 28th. Can you recommend a diet that would help me to lose the most amount of body fat possible. I know there is not much time but any info/advice would help. Anything I should avoid or anything that I should definitely eat?

Thanks so much!

Wlibbe -
Have been wondering about you.
Yes there are ways that you can drop a bunch of pounds in a couple of weeks - a couple of years ago I typed a similar post when I want to get into a pair of leather shorts by Sturgis (motorcycle rally) which was two weeks away. Did I get into the shorts - yes for like 5 hours. Keto dieting which will take off water and fat in a hurry has a rebound effect as soon as you put the carbs back in. Cruises = FOOD, by the second day of Sturgis I was retaining more water than the titanic and spent the next few days feeling bloated and miserable.

I would recommend that you stay the course. Your body is going to respond. Add some extra cardio for the next two weeks, drink lots of water as it will keep you from retaining water.
Have fun and enjoy yourself then get back in the saddle again when you get home.

Thanks honey!

I am really trying to eat clean. It is not easy and my body is pretty much FREAKING OUT but I don't want to look like crap for this cruise and I am really scared about gaining on the cruise. Although there will be really healthy choices available-I just have to stick to it and resisit my urge to binge/purge. I think I will be okay because my Mom is going to be with me.

I am planning on eating fruit and maybe wheat toast or oatmeal for breakfast. Then I am going to try and eat as much seafood as possible-tuna, salmon, etc. and stay the hell away from midnight buffets and cheeseburgers and fries!

I am definitely stepping up the cardio over these next two weeks.

Thanks for your advice Temple! :)

Why wait till 2 weeks before an event to start worrying about losing weight? Did you not know about this trip ahead of time?? Why not eat clean for a longer period of time and maintain a weight you are comfortable at and then go from there....In 2 weeks you will drop some water but that is about it....there are no real miracles though...

You might want to add something like 1 whole egg scrambled with 4 whites to your breakfast. I always couple a protein with a carb to slow the insulin response. Protein is your friend, Low glycemic carbs are your friend, healthy fats are your friend. If you fall off the wagon on the cruise - OH Fricking Well....you now know what needs to be done and I have every confidence that you will do it. Can't wait to hear what you have to say a year from now- May God help the bulimic that runs into you LOL

you will be happy to know that you should have many good food choices available on a cruise...

my aunt actually lost weight on her 2 week one to the mediterranean! She used the ship's gym every morning and ate lost of chicken and fish and veggies....

I think its the alcohol that kills ya....

New @ - she has but this is one of the gals from the thin board that has a bit to lose and is trying to get it straight now.

If this would have been an option then I would have done that absolutely--the trip was just planned yesterday-spur of the moment thing. And like Temple said-I am attempting to recover from an eating disorder-I have actually already lost 50 pounds...I am just trying to do it in a healthy way now.

Temple-you are too funny sweetie! Thanks for sticking up for me! :)

smoknjilly-You are so right about that! I think I will be okay-I will just have to limit my little tropical drinks with umbrellas--sugar is a killer!

Do you have ANY IDEA HOW MANY EMPTY CALORIES ARE IN ONE OF THOSE DRINKS?!

If you MUST drink (Yes, I MUST drink on occasion too - LOL!) opt for lite beer or drink vodka, gin, etc neat.... meaning no cream, oj, etc... or my personal favorite: TEQUILA! Chase with plenty of water. This will fill you up, put a decent amount of time between consuming drinks and keeps you from becoming dehydrated as alcohol is a diuretic.

Enjoy yourself - YOU WILL NEVER SEE THE PEOPLE ON THAT BOAT AGAIN MY DEAR... WHY SHOULD YOU GIVE A FLYING FAHOOTIE WHAT THEY THINK?!

Thanks BikiniMom!!

You are so great!!! I am really going to try to stay away from those but I have to have at least one!! :)

You are right about never seeing those people again-I just want to look good for myself so I can feel good and not be obsessing too badly about how I look in comparison to everyone else! :)

To anyone who hasn't read it, check out the alcohol sticky on the diet bored. I thought it was really interesting.

Wlibe, yes there will be a lot of access to food-- and some of it is clean and some isn't. I guess the key is portions and making good choices. You're a smart cookie and I hope you do what's best for you. I'm kind of jealous that you'll have all that good seafood around.

I hope that you're able to be comfy in your own skin and won't let the stress of weight/food ruin your trip. You deserve to kick back and enjoy yourself.

Thanks Raina!

I know it is going to be all about self-control and wanting to stick to a clean diet. That is why I want to make sure that I am on the right track before I go so my body will continue to want clean things, ya know? :)

:bigkiss:

Just remember, that there will be times when the shit will hit the fan... maybe not. But DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP.

Positive mental attitude is an important thing, but we have to put it into perspective.... there is NO SUCH THING AS FAILURE IF YOU REALLY TRY AND PRESS ON WHEN STUFF DOESN'T WORK OUT THE WAY YOU PLANNED...

REMEMBER, YOU ARE IN IT FOR THE LOOOOOOONG HAUL...

YOU HAVE BUT THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. :)

The thing about what other people think is that as a general rule humans are very self absorbed and notice nothing that literally does not pertain to them. Everyone else on that cruise is going to be running around going "God I hope I don't look to fat.....do these shorts make my butt look big.....God I wish I had lost some weight before I got on this boat..... and all the while they are going to be snarfing down at the all you can eat buffet. So, have yourself ONE of those little umbrella drinks and sit back and laugh at them because the NEXT time you go on a cruise they will be noticing you going GOD I wish I looked like her (we only notice that which looks better than us) as you now know the secret.

BikiniMom-thanks for the encouragement! :)

Temple-thanks!! I am definitely going to be watching other people. Hopefully that will trigger me to stick to my plan if I get lost in it all. I do notice the great looking people but I also notice the not-so great looking people--whether it is right or wrong--it gives me motivation to keep at whatever I am doing so I don't end up like them. Sorry if that is harsh but whatever works, right? :)

I apologize...you just get so used to seeing quick fix help posts for vacations etc...did not intend to flame you..Congrats on overcoming your ed..been there too so I understand all that...take your time..have faith in yourself...and just let the cards fall where they fall....dont get to caught up in losing for this cruise...like bikinimom said you got the rest of your life..and a lot of time women make things a bigger deal than they already are..we tend to do that:) Have fun and dont mind me...I tend to get a lil bitchy at times..but if you get to know me..you know that is just me;)

I went on an 8 day cruise. I used the gym a few times. I gained five pounds. I think it was water weight. It was gone shortly after I came home.Have fun!! Take some dramamine with you or get that patch for sea sickness. I took dramamine. Just watch mixing it with alcohol!

new@gettinbig-

No problem honey! I know it must have seemed like that and I am not searching for a quick fix really. I appreciate your apology!

katz-Thanks for the tips! I always get seasick-ugh! Gotta love the patch-at least we will only be at sea for one day--it is just a 4 day cruise. I went on a 10 day cruise a couple of years ago and that was rough-gained 10 pounds-ugh! Not this time damn it!!! :)

No drastic measures; they'll come back to haunt you. Just keep doing what you'd planned as far as exercise and clean eating before you learned about the cruise.

Enjoy the cruise and plan to indulge a little (that's what cruises are for anyway). So nothing you really want should be off limits, just use portion control. With the frequent food offerings on cruises, remember our advice from here - you are supposed to eat several small meals a day (a little something every 3 hours or so) to keep your metabolic fires burning. So get in line with everyone else, and don't feel guilty (like they probably will :) ).

Try to get a little protein and clean carbs in each feeding, that'll keep you from getting as hungry. Don't forget to include some "healthy fats" too, like avocado, olive oil, salmon, etc. When your body's getting enough nutrients, it won't tempt you as much for over-indulging, but if even if you do over-indulge, a nourished body is better able to burn it off. Above all, have fun!

I agree! I tried to do this for a trip once, and it's the real yoyo thing...I managed to loose some weight before the trip, but I was in such bad shape by the time the trip came around that my bod was soaking up every single calorie and holding it throughout the trip, so I had gained it all back by the mdiway point of the trip, and ended the trip heavier than when I started dieting.

I'm all about consistency now. Go as you are...be proud of the progress you've made, and don't let this trip knock you off the slow and steady course that's done so much for you...
