Does anyone know if the father has any authority on the last name of an expecting child? I'm having some baby mamma drama already and am meeting with an attorney on Friday to discuss my rights but the suspence is absolutly killing me. Thanks for anything you can give
You can demand a paternity test if you know the child is yours. If it's yours then you have rights to being on the birth certificate. I'm not sure if it differs in various states. I would google up some info for your state. Maybe even call a few attorneys for some advice.
That's what I thought, I didn't know if there was some loophole or not. I think that law sucks a big fatty, where the hell are my rights? How do I have no say as to the name of my own child?

Avoid drama tell the point of birth kiss the mama's ass it sucks balls I don't know your situation but I know of similar. So kiss her ass tell the baby is born be there do what you have to do to get your last name on the birth certificate cause really it is up to her. I am guessing she is using it against your right now truly sad. Best wishes but in this case the law is not on your side.

Yea, you're completly right. It will be very important for me to pick my battles wisely. She is bitter because I won't take her back, this is only verification that I'm doing the right thing. She is definetly using the baby as leverage which really sucks and only reflects her level of maturity. She also lives 200 miles away in another state which only complicates matters. Man, I thought she was a drama queen before she was pregnant, throw some hormones aout of wack and you have a bonified nut case. Someone did just send me a new study released from the University of Berkley which states that father's are being rewarded more than in any other time in history due to some recent passed bills. I got a pretty top nitch attorney that I'm meeting on Friday that will hopefully allow me to have a grasp on this situation. I appreciate the feedback and support
Yes, the tides have turned with regard to paternity rights. I agree with QT, be nice to her and don't rock the boat. At the same time, meet with your attorney and get everything in order.

I thought I would give everyone an update. I met with an attorney today and was all in all pleased with my options. I can't do anything untill the child is born. As soon as that happens I need to make sure I'm there so I can sign the birth certificate(this will be a challenge in itself considering she lives out of state 200 miles away and is due the same week of nursing finals ). After the child is born I can start taking action in filing a motion on the last name, which is pretty well in my favor according to my attorney. I just need to start keeping meticulous records on EVERYTHING, antime I call her, anytime I visit her, recipts for clothing and accesories I've sent and will send her. It shouldn't be a problem for me to obtain joint custody either. I will be fighting for living custody when I graduate, to ensure this, I will need to start doing everything on point untill then. It will definetly be a long uphill battle, many court appearances and a whole lot of driving. This whole episode may make me celibate for a while.
