download Roxio 5 which is basically ez cd creator 5 off of limewire or morpheus(sp?). friend of mine got it from there.

mp3cd is the best program out there!!!!!

PM if you need help finding it

It may not work with XP... that is why I continue to use NT

XP includes built-in CD burning for both data and audio. I've burned both types, and have had no real problems. The audio burn is done through Media Player, and the data burn can be done through Explorer.

If you want to rip MP3's, download CDex from shareware.com. It's small, fast, easy, and maintains good quality.

I'm using MP3CD.....AND windows XP!!!!! It works fine. Xp is set up in a NTFS format, so that program should work with NT as well.

It has nothing to do with the FS.

MS engineered XP (working in collusion with RealPlayer) to downgrade MP3 sound quality to help realplayer promote their own (proprietary) music format.

Athough several MP3 players anticipated this and have built a work-around.

Are you just talking about ripping and encoding MP3's with Media Player?

Okay, we may be getting way too geek for Elite, but I'm curious as to what you've heard/experienced with MP3's under XP. I did a search on slashdot for XP and MP3, got no results for some reason. But y'know, I could be a tard. :D

I've been running XP since the early betas, and I had some problems burning audio CD's initially, but no music glitches whatsoever since then.

My MP3's that were encoded under 98SE still sound just as good to my ear (Klipsch speakers), and I've ripped some more under XP with a 3rd party encoder, and have had no problems.

r00+, if you don't want to clutter the board with this, and don't mind discussing further, drop me a PM.

Thanks man! That's the same thing I had heard.

I don't care for WMA personally, and I'll stick to 3rd party apps for encoding. Haven't had any compatibilty issues thus far.

I'm surprised you've seen playback issues too.

MS isn't gonna back MPEG4 either...great.

The playback problems I've seen are mostly with MP3s that are less than 128 bit-rate.

I'm stabbing at a figure, but I'd guess XP MP3 playback halves bit-rate in terms of sound quality.

Yeah, it does. XP encodes MP3's at 56K, which does sound very flat.

CDex is a kick ass encoder that works great with XP. I'm gonna sound like a broken record because I keep posting that, but it's one of my new favorite software toys.
